“AUN-KU Winter Seminar on Human Security Development and Energy Science” is co-organized by the Graduate School of Energy Science (GSES) of Kyoto University and the ASEAN University Network-Kyoto University Student Mobility Program toward Human Security Development. It is designed for undergraduate students to study the concept of Human Security Development (HSD) and Energy Science. The main theme of this seminar is energy development, which is an important issue in Human Security Development. The participating students are expected to deepen their knowledge on human security development and energy science with the prospect of finding solutions to technological, socio-economic and political issues in Asia specifically. The seminar will offer lectures and class discussions as well as organize field trips and cultural events. Applicants are not limited to engineering, economics, or science – all fields are welcome.

On behalf of Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA), I am pleased to invite you to be part of the East Asian Seas (EAS) Congress 2018 to be held at the Iloilo Convention Center, Iloilo City, Philippines, on November 27-30, 2018.
Hosted by the Government of the Philippines and carrying the theme, “25 Years of Partnerships for Healthy Oceans, People and Economies: Moving as One with the Global Ocean Agenda”, the EAS Congress 2018 aims to usher in better, stronger and smarter regional actions that are strategically aligned with the key principles and targets of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to the global ocean agenda.
The EAS Congress 2018 is expected to engage over 1,000 participants from national and local government, academia, business, international organizations and NG0s. This will be the sixth in a series of triennial ocean-focused Congresses organized by PEMSEA, beginning in 2003 in Putrajaya, Malaysia. It will feature an International Conference and Environmental Exhibition, the Fifth EAS Youth Forum (YF5), PEMSEA Network of Local Governments (PNLG) Forum 2018, and will culminate with the Sixth Ministerial Forum.

As one of the ASEAN Foundation’s flagship programmes, the ASEAN Foundation Model ASEAN Meeting or AFMAM has continued with its presence and now entered into its fourth year of implementation. The previous three AFMAMs in 2015, 2016, and 2017 have had good turnout and positive feedback from the participants as an initiative targeted the youth to raise the ASEAN awareness.

The ASEAN S&T Fellowship offers unique and exciting career opportunities. Modeled after the successful AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science) Science and Technology Policy Fellowship® Program, it enables early and mid-career scientists who are citizens and residents of ASEAN Member States (AMS) to contribute their knowledge and analytical skills to their national governments. Fellows will be embedded within national-level ministries in to encourage policy makers to use more science-based approaches in their policy- and decision-making.
With the support of ASEAN, USAID and the U.S. Government, up to 16 Fellows will be chosen from across the region to be hosted by a government ministry in their home country to advance science-based decision-making in one of three priority areas:
