Overseas Education Expo (OEX) Office of International Affairs (OIA) UGM 2021 — The Innovative Virtual Overseas Education Exhibition Amidst the Pandemic

Although the COVID-19 pandemic still put most international mobility activities on halt, Office of International Affairs (OIA) UGM insists on taking UGM students—and the public—to “hunt” for study abroad opportunities through its first virtual exhibition entitled Overseas Education Expo (OEX) UGM. This year becomes the “debut” year of the overseas education expo, OEX, inviting over 30 UGM partner universities abroad and filled with workshops agenda and dissemination of information regarding partner universities’ profile, academic activities, exchange programs, chances to study on-site, and scholarship opportunities provided by the universities. Opening itself for UGM students and public members who have previously registered themselves, the three-day virtual exhibition was officially kicked off by the opening remarks of the Head of Office of International Affairs (OIA) UGM, I Made Andi Arsana, Ph.D., on Friday, 28th May 2021, and will be closed on Sunday, 30th May 2021. By means of Zoom and live streaming in the OIA UGM Youtube channel, OEX readily started the overseas education virtual exhibition “voyage” with all of the participants and study abroad enthusiasts from home.

“As the first overseas education expo in UGM, OEX acts as the medium for all participants to attain the opportunity of participating in outgoing mobility programs in universities worldwide as well as getting the glimpses of study abroad nuances in each country represented in OEX,” said the Head of OIA UGM, I Made Andi Arsana, Ph.D., in his opening remarks. Through OEX, I Made Andi Arsana, Ph.D, and OIA UGM delivered a message to all present participants and study abroad enthusiasts that, “No matter where we are, whether we’re aware or not, we will always influence and be influenced by the process of internationalization.” Therefore, it has been an inevitable consequence of being a part of the said process—a process that OEX intended to facilitate with the hopes of giving as much benefit as possible to all present participants and study abroad enthusiasts as fellow world citizens.

Adding to the Head of OIA UGM’s remarks, the Project Officer of OEX UGM, Rima Fadila Azizah, also expressed her enthusiasm in welcoming all of the participants and study abroad enthusiasts to the exciting agendas of OEX where many important information and knowledge regarding global exposure and study abroad will be shared. By inviting more than 30 UGM partner universities, such as Kyushu University, Tsukuba University, National Chung Hsing University, Jeonbuk National University, Universiti Malaya, Chulalongkorn University, Radboud University, University of Birmingham, RTWH Aachen University, Ghent University, University College Dublin, Anadolu University, and Monash University, and by collaborating with several Indonesian educational agencies namely AIESEC, YES Study, NIEC, and Schoters Indonesia, Rima Fadila Azizah hoped that OEX UGM will be able to unlock various insights on studying abroad for all of the participants and study abroad enthusiasts—starting from information on many interesting study programs of UGM partner universities to tips on winning study abroad scholarships. At last, Rima Fadila Azizah, representing OEX UGM Committee, expressed her hope that regardless of the restriction and uncertainty caused by the pandemic which still largely affected the general situation today, all of the participants and study abroad enthusiasts won’t have to be disheartened and despaired of taking the chances of studying abroad that provides undoubtedly rich options and opportunities.

Following the opening remarks of the Head of OIA UGM and the Project Officer of OEX UGM, the event proceeded with an introduction to OEX and bonding with OIA UGM workshop; Scholarship Interview Preparation workshop by Alfath Bagus Panuntun El Nur Indonesia, and “Overseas Exchange: Internship with AIESEC Global Talent” workshop by AIESEC, before moving to the partner universities presentation of the first day. On the second day, the event will be started with “What to Prepare to Study Abroad and How to Nail Them” workshop presented by NIEC Study, “Tips and Trick on How to Ace English Proficiency Test” workshop by YES Study, and will be concluded with partner universities presentation session. Lastly, on the third day, the event will be started with “How to Win Scholarship Abroad” workshop presented by Schoters Indonesia, “How to Improve IELTS Academic Speaking and Writing Skill” workshop by YES Study, partner universities presentation session, and will be concluded with the official closing of OEX UGM.

As the first day of OEX UGM has ended, OEX UGM encourages you to tune in for the latest updates and join the fun-ridden OEX UGM’s exciting agenda that holds many essential insights on study abroad on the second and third day via Zoom—for those of you who have been acknowledged as participants—and via OEX UGM Youtube Channel! See you, there!

Pada hari kedua, rangkaian acara OEX akan dibuka oleh lokakarya bertajuk “What to Prepare to Study Abroad and How to Nail Them” dari NIEC Study, lokakarya bertajuk “Tips and Trick on How to Ace English Proficiency Test” dari YES Study, dan diakhiri oleh sesi presentasi oleh universitas mitra OEX UGM.
