The members aim to revolutionize the teaching, understanding, and awareness of the vital role science, technology and innovation play in fulfilling the economic, health and environmental requirements of the world’s population. Members are also seeking to mentor and encourage youth to seek new innovative methods and technologies that will enhance the understanding and learning of the sciences. ASTI also tries to use Science Technology and Innovation for the advancement of mankind and the protection of the environment.

Despite its relatively small scale, KUT has had a strong presence with its distinctive character and progressive education system. Notably, KUT took the lead in adopting a quarter system to enable intensive learning. Valuing student autonomy, KUT has no compulsory courses.

Toyo University began as a private “Philosophy Academy” founded by Dr. Enryo Inoue in 1887. In light of the then-confused state Japan found itself in following the introduction of Western influences, Dr. Inoue offered a view of education that proposed that the basis of all learning lay in philosophy. Through the teaching of philosophy grounded in fundamental and logical thought, he aimed to enrich society by increasing the capabilities of the common people to engage in such intellectual activities as contemplation, conception, and judgment.

Chuo University was founded as the Igirisu Horitsu Gakko (English Law School) in 1885. In the 134 years since its establishment, Chuo has continued to build upon its tradition and performance and stayed true to its long-held philosophy of “Fostering the Ability to Apply Knowledge to Practice,” pursuing its mission of contributing to society and nurturing pioneering individuals who go on to work for the betterment of society. Today, Chuo stands as a comprehensive university comprising eight faculties, including two established in 2019, and seven graduate schools, as well as two professional graduate schools, four affiliated high schools, two affiliated junior high schools, and nine research institutes. Driven forward by wide-ranging academic research and learning across the university community, Chuo’s original tenet of pursuing the Practical Application of Learning has been acknowledged and embraced in our current university motto, “Knowledge into Action.”

As the only national university established in Saitama Prefecture, Saitama University’s history begins a century ago. Three renowned Japanese national education universities, Urawa Higher School(est.1921, Saitama Normal School (est.1873)and Saitama Youth Normal School(est. 1922)were integrated into Saitama University in 1949 to cultivate talented minds. The University was established based on the diverse characteristics and the know-how of each institute. [The Netherlands] Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam – Student Exchange Program 2020/2021

Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) was founded in 1880. It was built as an independent university, free from interference by either church or state. At first, the university was only open to Reformed Christians who financed the university entirely through private funding and donations (via the famous ‘VU boxes’). In the 1960s the university became primarily state-funded and has since welcomed people from a rich diversity of cultural backgrounds and religious faiths.

Ever since 1880, the university has continued to expand. It now comprises nine faculties and hosts more than 15,000 Bachelor’s and almost 11,500
Master’s students. VU Amsterdam has over 4,500 employees (3,500 FTE), and more than 20% of its academic staff has an international background. The male-female ratio is evenly distributed. The teaching and research programs cover a broad spectrum of disciplines, from the Humanities to the
Sciences and from Medicine to Theology.
