Meiji University was founded in January 1881 as the Meiji Law School by a group of young lawyers barely in their 30’s. It was an era characterized by Japan’s urgent need to develop as a modern independent nation. The three founded the Meiji Law School in their fervent hope to “foster bright capable youths who would lead modern civil society in Japan”. Until now, Meiji University has expanded to become one of the most prominent private universities in Japan, and it is celebrating its 140th anniversary in 2021.

Founded in 1885 as Igirisu Hōritsu Gakkō (the English Law School), Chuo is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions in the country.The university operates four campuses in Tokyo: the largest in Hachiōji (Tama campus), one in Bunkyō (Korakuen campus), and two others in Shinjuku (Ichigaya and Ichigaya-Tamachi campuses). Chuo is organized into six faculties, ten graduate schools, and nine research institutes.

Greetings from Kumamoto University, Japan!

Kumamoto is located in the center of Kyushu Island in Japan and is rich in nature. Kumamoto University is situated in Kumamoto City where the historic Kumamoto castle is surrounded by many trees. So, the city is called FOREST CITY. The University has a hill clad in fresh greenery behind the campus, giving us a tranquil atmosphere for studies. Kumamoto is also known for its high-quality freshwater springs, which provide drinking water to the residents.

Moreover, Kumamoto University is one of the oldest universities in Japan with seven faculties, eleven graduate schools, and 23 research centers/institutes (as of August 2017) that support a wide spectrum of educational and research activities. Currently, the university is home to around 8,000 undergraduate students and 2,000 graduate students, including 507 international students from 49 countries (as of May 2017). For over 100 years the university has been at the forefront of culture, advancing science and technology, and contributing to the development of the Japanese educational system.

It was the 4th Imperial Universities in Japan, ranked as 4th in 2020 Times Higher Education Japan University Rankings, and selected as a Top Type university of Top Global University Project by the Japanese government. 

Kyushu University accepts students from universities with which we have university-wide exchange agreements (partner universities) via three main programs.

Unfortunately, the epidemiological situation is unstable. We cannot guarantee safety for all participants. Therefore 2021 USBEREIT will be held online. The health and safety of our participants and staff is the number one priority of IEEE.
