Mahidol University has been living a long history for over 129 years since the establishment of “Siriraj Hospital” in 1888, then developed to a medical school in the next year. The name was bestowed upon by His Late Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej after His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol of Songkla. The University is recognized as a large higher education institution comprising academicians and professionals in every field, both in arts and sciences. Mahidol University had continued to progress in all aspects to stay relevant and conform to the rapidly changing world and society.

It is the largest and most renowned Czech university, and is also the best-rated Czech university according to international rankings. There are currently 17 faculties at the University (14 in Prague, 2 in Hradec Králové and 1 in Plzeň), plus 3 institutes, 6 other centres of teaching, research, development and other creative activities, a centre providing information services, 5 facilities serving the whole University, and the Rectorate – which is the executive management body for the whole University.

Exchange students from foreign partner institutions of Doshisha University are enrolled at Doshisha as students of either “the Center for Global Education (commonly referred to as CGE-sei)” or “the Center for Japanese Language and Culture (commonly referred to as Nichibun-sei)”. Exchange students may take subjects offered at each Center as well as access the same campus facilities as regular Doshisha students. In CGE-sei, students have the opportunity to have a better understanding of Japan in a global context and take a variety of courses ranging from the humanities and social sciences to the natural and human sciences. In Nichibun-sei, Doshisha University offers “Japanese Language Courses”, “Japanese and English Language Seminars”, “Lecture Courses in Japanese Studies” and “Lecture Courses in International Studies” for exchange students.

The origin of Sophia University can be traced back to more than 450 years ago when the Jesuit missionary Francis Xavier came to Japan in 1549 to spread Christianity in Japan. The actual foundation of the university began in 1908 when three Jesuit priests arrived in Japan in response to a request from the Roman Pontiff at that time, Pope Pius X. Five years later, in 1913, they opened the first Catholic university in Japan on this Kioi site where Sophia still stands.

Busan University of Foreign Studies was founded in 1981 by the late Chung Tae-sung. His philosophy for education was that young intellectual minds must become leaders internationally. Busan University of Foreign Studies was founded as a college for studying foreign languages in April 1982 with its first students studying English, French, Japanese, Chinese, German, Indonesian, Malay, and Thai. Through the 1980s, the college expanded its programs and finally became a university in 1991. As of 2009, Busan University of Foreign Studies has academic exchange program agreements with 94 universities in 24 countries.

Press Release: UGM Officially Begins the Collaboration of UK-Indonesia Consortium for Interdisciplinary Sciences

UGM has officially signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Thursday (25/2) along with Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), University of Nottingham, University of Warwick, dan Coventry University to form research and technology development collaboration between the United Kingdom and Indonesia through UK-Indonesia Consortium for Interdisciplinary Sciences (UKICIS). Six leaders from each university delivered their enthusiasm and expectations for UKICIS after signing the MoU, namely Provost of University of Warwick Prof. Christine Ennew, Rector of Institut Teknologi Bandung Prof. Reini Wirahadikusumah, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research of Coventry University Prof. Richard Dashwood, Rector of Institut Pertanian Bogor Prof. Arif Satria, Pro Vice Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange of University Nottingham Prof. Dame Jessica Corner, and Rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada Prof. Panut Mulyono.

 Courtesy Visit of Austrian Ambassador to UGM

The Ambassador of Austria to Indonesia, Dr. Johannes Peterlik, paid a courtesy visit to UGM accompanied by the Honorary Consul of Austria in Yogyakarta, Dr. Sugiharto Soeleman on Thursday (11/2). He was directly welcomed by the Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng., IPU, ASEAN Eng.

The Ambassador expressed his gratitude for the reception amidst the pandemic. He shared his affinity with ASEAN countries, including Indonesia, as he has previously been posted to represent Austria in the Kingdom of Thailand, co-accredited to Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar from 2009 to 2013 and to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam from 2004 to 2009. According to him, it is an honor that Austria is able to build partnership and cooperation in the education and research sector with leading universities and scholars across ASEAN, including UGM in Indonesia.
