Faculty of Pharmacy in collaboration with Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing Universitas Gadjah Mada proudly present Summer Course 2025 GREEN-HOPE: Harnessing Green Pharmacy for Climate Resilience and Community Empowerment.

This summer course program is designed to explore the role of green pharmacy in climate resilience and community empowerment through sustainability principle strategies. Over three weeks, the program will cover the utilization of medicinal plants with nature-based innovations, the use of natural ingredients in pharmacy practices, the identification of sustainability strategies, and field trips to locations that exemplify green pharmacy principles. This program will enable participants to develop innovative projects that are applicable in their communities.

 

Learning Outcome

After participating in this program, participants are expected to be able to:

  • Identify and utilize local medicinal plants to support climate resilience and public health
  • Design and implement green pharmacy-based projects that are sustainable and positively impact the environment and society
  • Develop high-value herbal products, such as essential oils, herbal teas, or ointments, by utilizing local resources
  • Build collaborative networks with local stakeholders, including communities, NGOs, and governments, to strengthen empowerment programs
  • Develop action plans that are aligned with the SDGs, especially in the context of green pharmacy and community empowerment

 

Learning Method

The course will employ a hybrid approach, combining online and in-person (3 weeks in Yogyakarta). Participants will engage in:

  • Hybrid class and lectures from academics and practitioners in medicinal plants, green pharmacy, sustainability, and climate resilience
  • Group discussions to encourage collaborative problem-solving and exchange of ideas
  • Laboratory practices focus on the preparation of herbal products and exploring natural ingredient-based formulations
  • Community-based projects to develop innovative solutions related to green pharmacy that can be implemented in local communities
  • Field trips to several local industries and various destinations in Yogyakarta to observe firsthand the practical application of green pharmacy principles
