Turning up with us this time to spill more interesting stories from OIA UGM is Astiti Nareswari (Asti) as the Coordinator for Incoming Exchange Program. Kudos!

In the organizational structure, Asti’s position places her under the Mobility Team. Her role is to arrange hospitality matters for the incoming UGM exchange students from abroad. From reviewing their documents to communicating with partner universities, she makes sure that exchange students’ study in UGM are all smooth.

So, basically, does Asti only deal with international students? Well, not really. Aside from dealing with exchange students and communicating with partner universities, she also has to routinely communicate with other faculties in UGM, mainly those who receives exchange students. It’s not always easy, since each semester there’s hundreds of exchange students to be taken care of. However, Asti revealed that the main key to withstand her high demanded job is to set a good timeline, to follow procedure consecutively, and to always be ready.

Many parties in Indonesia know the reputable collaboration between Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and overseas universities. More than forty universities in Southeast Asia or ASEAN have established relationships with UGM. In addition, UGM is also part of the ASEAN University Network (AUN), so it has many international activities with other AUN members.

One of the figures behind this successful international cooperation is Cahya Wulandari, commonly called “Cahya.” She serves as Program Coordinator for the ASEAN Region. She has been assigned to this position since 2019, starting with a collaboration with Singapore Management University for a summer school program.

A lot of students not only dream of going overseas, but to study abroad too. In OIA, our job is to make overseas programs offered for students not only readily available but to help students in the overall process. OIA also announces various programs and scholarships offered by overseas partners for students of UGM.

OIA receives various offers from UGM’s partners available to the academic community. Staff members review, publish, and communicate with partners regularly about these programs. All this paperwork is regularly processed everyday by staff members of the Outgoing Mobility Division.

Talking about immigration stuffs often if not always invites nightmares. From sorting out a pile of legal documents to getting approval from the right officials, there are a lot of requirements in need of careful attention. Do one (small) mistake then your immigration proceeding might get delayed or even worse cancelled.

To assist and guide international students in dealing with this matter is one of the very reasons why the Office of International Affairs (OIA) exists! Coming with us to share some of the ordeal of immigration this time is Mr. Risa (Mas Risa) as one of the PICs of immigration.

When we hear the word “immigration” what usually comes to mind are endless paperwork, the burden of getting documents approved and signed by the right people, and having to pay attention to many other prerequisites. These processes are very demanding for most of us. Immigration is an unavoidable part of overseas matters. But the work isn’t only done by us, there are people behind the scenes giving their all.

The Office of International Affairs (OIA) offers various services regarding international matters. Services regarding immigration are also available. Through the Immigration Office Unit, services such as passport issuance and Visit/Stay Permit Processing are available for local and international partners of UGM.

Most students dream of going abroad, Most students dream of seeking education abroad. Whether it be to encounter new cultures or to gain wisdom from foreign education, there are many reasons why students want to study overseas. In UGM, students can claim international scholarships or be exchanged to foreign countries from all over the world.

Acquiring information about international programs like scholarships, student exchange, double degree, and others are difficult when done alone. Handling the requirements is also a delicate task. This is where the Office of International Affairs comes in! We help UGM students when applying for foreign programs and provide information regarding available international programs.

OIA UGM, as an office that deals with foreign affairs, needs to establish partnerships with institutions from various nations. In this episode of OIA Behind the Scene, we will meet Maylany Ika Putri, familiarly called Maylany. Maylany is Program Coordinator (PC) for Europe and Middle East Regions at OIA UGM. Do you want to know what it’s like behind the scenes?

Maylany is in charge of UGM’s collaboration with European and Middle Eastern partners in general. “In this context, collaboration entails initiating, negotiating, and conversing with partners, among several other things. If it is mutually agreed upon, we will also assist in the processing of finalizing the agreement,” Maylany explained.
