We are pleased to announce the Call for Applications in the SEARCA Regional Professorial Chair Grants 2015-2016. Each grant is for total amount of US$5.000 and is open to outstanding Southeast Asia academics Championing inclusive and sustainable agricultural and rural development. which is the priority thus of SEARCA for its current Five-year Plan.
The following are the guidelines of the SEARCA Regional Professorial Chair Grant:
The awardees must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a Southeast Asian national with tenure and holding an academic rank of not lower than Assistant Professor.
- Must have a PhD in fields related to the advancement of agricultural science and technology and development of rural households/coummunities (See table 1 in attachement for field of study)
- Must have proven track record of exellence in academic and/or research in your chosen field of specialization within the board priority thurst of SEARCA
- must have not been a recipient of a SEARCA Regional Professorial Chair Grants in the past five (5) years.
- Must have the official endorsement of the Chief Executive/Head of your intitution not only on the applicant’s academic qualifications but also on ypur good moral character.

Tohoku University will host several exchange programs for the 2016-2017 academic year.
- JYPE – Tohoku University Junior Year Program in English
The core (required) course of this program is the Individual Research Training course. The student will research a current topic that is related to his/her field of study with the support of the research group to which the student is assigned.
The program also offers courses on language, culture and society, aimed at promoting understanding of Japanese
language and social customs. Cultural and intellectual exchange with professors and students is an integral part of this program and will be accomplished through class work as well as participation in the research group activities.

IFS-SEARCA Collaborative Research Grants 2016
Focusing on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation
IFS and SEARCA announce a call for Collaborative Research Proposals from early-career scientists in Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam, with a focus on research on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (CCHAM) as it relates to agriculture and rural development. Interested young researchers from these countries are invited to express their interest to participate in the development of collaborative research proposals by filling out the expression of interest form here:

Those who express interest will be invited to join an online collaborative environment that is being used for this project. You do not need to know any collaborators before expressing interest. The purpose of the online environment is for researchers to find and get to know suitable collaborators, create research teams of three to five collaborators, and prepare proposals for submission to IFS. Further instructions will follow to those who register interest to participate.
The total value of a Collaborative Research Grant will be between USD 45-75,000. This breaks down to 80% for research and 20% for team coordination and collaboration activities. The actual value of a grant and the distribution of the grant money among the team members will be determined by need, the size of the team and the team’s budget.
Eligibility criteria:
1. You are a citizen of Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste or Vietnam and are carrying out your research in any of these countries
2. You have a Masters or PhD degree (or equivalent academic degree)
3. You are doing/will do research on some aspects of CCHAM
4. For first time grant applicants, men should be younger than 35; women should be younger than 40 years of age
5. For those who already had a grant from SEARCA and IFS, you may participate in this programme and apply for a Collaborative Research Grant provided SEARCA and IFS have accepted your report on the previous Grant, no later than the closing date for application submissions for this programme
6. You are attached to a university, national research institution or a research oriented and not-for-profit NGO

20 slots will be offered to both international and domestic students to undertake hands-on laboratory experience.
Financial support will be provided to participating students such as return airfare, accommodation and scholarship during the program period of July 1 to August 26, 2016.
During the eight-week, students will gain research knowledge, and opportunity to network with other students and professionals, and gain invaluable insight to life as a graduate student. In addition to research experience, students also participate in a two-day symposium and various workshops and other educational and cultural based activities.

Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
(MEXT) and Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), in partnership
with Okayama University and ASEAN University Network (AUN), is going
to organise the “Study and Visit Japan’s Modernisation and Post-War
Experience 2016” on 13 – 21 March 2016, which aims to showcase the
culture, tradition and the people of Japan to the ASEAN students to
further strengthen its people to people relationship and to enhance
social interaction and communication skill, as well as to explore its
diverse perspectives.
The programme offers scholarships for 34 students from AUN Member
Universities in the fields of Social Science and Humanities. The
scholarship covers the land arrangement (programme fees,
accommodation, meals, kits and bus transportation) in Japan within the
inclusive dates amounting to JPY 80,000 (roughly around USD 1,000).
The round-trip airfare, visa processing fee and travel insurance shall
be borne by the participants.
