The Temasek Foundation Leadership Enrichment and Regional Networking (TF LEaRN) Programme @ NUS nurtures the next generation of Asian leaders by providing opportunities for cultural exchange, networking, community engagement and leadership development.

The award quantum for AY16/17 will be publicised in April 2016 on this website. As a general reference, students who were awarded in AY15/16 received S$6,500 during their exchange.

The programme takes place at NUS during the students’ exchange in Semester 1 (August – December 2016).

The Okazaki Kaheita International Scholarship Foundation (The Foundation) was established in March 1990 to contribute to world peace and development by fostering people from the People’s Republic of China and other countries in Asia. This foundation strives to promote mutual understanding and international exchange as well as to pay homage to and immortalize the spirit of Okazaki Kaheita, a man who worked for mutual understanding, peace, and world friendship.
In order to promote friendship between Japan and Asian countries and to further the personal development of people in these countries, the foundation provides scholarships to students from Asian countries who wish to study in graduate schools in Japan.
Duration of scholarship:
The period of the scholarship will be three years, including one year of Japanese language study at a Japanese language school specified by the foundation or one year of auditing a postgraduate course, followed by two years of graduate level study.
The scholarship shall be terminated if the selected applicant failed to gain admission to a graduate school at a Japanese university within one year after his/her arrival in Japan.
Selected applicants who have not yet learned the Japanese language are required to pursue Japanese language study at a language school in his/her home country prior to coming to Japan. The foundation shall bear the language school tuition fees for six months, in addition to entrance fees.
Qualification: Anyone who supports the objectives of the foundation to build his/her own country and to promote international friendship, is outstanding in personality and ability, in sound health and is deemed to be in need of financial assistance for educational expenses, and who meets the following qualifications:
（1）Be a citizen of Indonesia
（2）Be a resident of Indonesia  on April 1, 2016
（3）Be born after April 2, 1992
（4）Academic Qualifications: Must have graduated from a university appointed by our foundation prior to March 31, 2017 and be able to obtain a letter of recommendation from his/her supervising professor
（5）Major: The field of study selected by the applicant must be the same as his/her major at the undergraduate level.（Preferably, the applicant should have selected the university of his/her choice and the supervising professor under whom he/her wishes to pursue graduate studies.)
（6）Language ability: Must be able to understand graduate level lectures taught in Japanese or English. Selected applicants who have not yet learned Japanese are required to attend a Japanese language course at a language school for 6 months （approximately 500 hours）prior to coming to Japan. Furthermore, the selected applicant shall be required to take the Japanese Language Proficiency Test held annually by the Japan Foundation.
Details of Scholarship
(1) Scholarship Amount
-Postgraduate student (graduate school) : \120,000/month
-Auditor of graduate course or during Japanese Language study : \100,000/month
(2) School and Examination Fees
（ⅰ）The foundation shall cover all required entrance and tuition fees （average sum of \700,000/year）. Cost of study materials, on the other hand, shall be covered by the selected applicant.
（ⅱ）The foundation shall bear school examination fees and all other related expenses.
(3) Outfit Allowance
-\100,000 shall be paid as funds for initial expenses to begin living and studying in Japan.
-\20,000 as part of the above amount shall be handed in the selected applicant’s own country when he/she receives the certificate of the scholarship.  Part of this amount shall be paid in US dollars in order to cover all correspondence fees with the foundation before coming to Japan. The remaining amount, on the other hand, will be paid in Japanese yen in order to cover all traffic expenses to reach the dormitory when the selected applicant arrive in Japan.
(4) Travelling Expenses
（ⅰ）ANA airline tickets shall be provided to the selected applicant for travelling to and from Japan, respectively to be used at the time of commencing studies and upon completion of our scholarship program.
（ⅱ）A round-trip ANA airline ticket shall also be provided to the selected applicant once during the second year of the scholarship period for home visit purposes to his/her country.
(5) Residence
The foundation shall provide, free of charge, one room in the ANA dormitory for each of our selected applicants who live in Yokohama or Osaka. Facilities: A single room of about 14 square meters with air-conditioning and heating, lights, desk and chair, bed and bedding, closet, telephone outlet, dining hall（food expenses to be borne by the selected applicant), cooking facilities（shared), bathroom and washing machines（shared）
(6) Traffic Expenses for Commuting
The foundation shall bear the public traffic expenses for commuting between the residence designated by the foundation （ANA dormitory　in principle）and the university（average sum of \200,000/year）.
(7) Others
（ⅰ）Counseling
The foundation shall provide information and consultation services on matters related to living in Japan and on university examinations.
（ⅱ）Traveling in Japan
1st year   :  a trip to Okayama, local area in Japan
（Travel expenses, boarding and lodging expenses to be borne by the foundation）
2nd year    : a trip to Kyoto and Nara
（Travel expenses, boarding and lodging expenses to be borne by the foundation）
a ski trip to Hokkaido
（Travel expenses, boarding and lodging expenses to be borne by the foundation）
3rd year  :  Free travel after the completion of study in Japan
An ANA domestic round-trip domestic airline ticket shall be provided to the selected applicant for travel to any one place in Japan（with supplementary travel expenses of a maximum of \100,000）.
（ⅲ）Medical Expenses
We require all the students to take out the mandatory National Health Insurance. The insurance will cover 70% of your medical expenses, meaning that you will need to pay 30%.  However, the students must pay the premium expenses of the mandatory National Health Insurance, which is approximately 1000 yen per month.

Since its foundation in 1961, Sophia University Summer Session in Asian Studies has provided the participants with the opportunity to study about Japan and explore the country’s relation to Asia and the rest of the world. By studying at Yotsuya campus in the heart of Tokyo, the students experience various aspects of Japanese culture and society, and witness the myriad ways in which all cultures of the world are reflected in the maze-like urban landscape of Tokyo.
Sophia University’s short-term intensive program, Summer Session for Japanese Language (and Culture, modified in 2015), started in June 2013. This six-week Summer Session is designed for students who are willing to work hard to improve their Japanese language ability through a remarkably intensive program organized in Japan. Different proficiency levels of classes are offered and students study Japanese in an international environment in the heart of Tokyo.
*Japanese Language classes will be three lessons of ninety minutes a day, Monday through Friday.
Session Period:
1. Summer Session for Japanese Language: Six weeks (June 6th to July 15th, 2016)
2. Summer Studies in Asia Studies: Three weeks (July 21st to August 12th, 2016)
Program capacity: 60 students per program period
Qualification :
1. The minimum GPA requirement for acceptance is 2.75 on a 4.00 scale or equivalent grades.
2. Applicants must attend all the classes to obtain credits unless there are any inevitable reasons to skip a class. Auditing is not approved.
3. For Summer Session for Japanese Language participants need a certain level of English proficiency to keep up with the classes, however, there are no specific requirements to prove their English ability. Meanwhile for Summer Studies in Asia Studies, the minimum required scores of English proficiency test for acceptance are as follows: TOEFL/PBT: 550, TOEFL/iBT: 79, IELTS: 6.0. English proficiency test score, has to be submitted.
 

The Temasek Foundation Leadership Enrichment and Regional Networking Programme at NanyangTechnological University (TF LEaRN at NTU) is funded by Temasek Foundation. The goal of this scholarship programme (TF LEaRN @ NTU) is to build bridges among student leaders in Asia, with an aim to achieve the
following:
1. Develop a global mindset by acquiring a better appreciation of another culture, lifestyle, language,and enriching their leadership skills.
2. Form a sustained network amongst regional LEaRN participants.
3. Work together towards regional connection and development of Asia.
4. Build capability and learn whilst involved in the immersion programme TF LEaRN @ NTU serves to provide a total experiential learning platform for the talented young leaders of the future from Asia, an opportunity to immerse a semester at NTU.
The total experiential learning platform is achieved through the amalgamation of semester course work, community service learning, cultural exchange activities, projects and host family experience in Singapore.
Asian undergraduate students selected to participate in TF LEaRN @ NTU will develop a strong sense of cross-cultural intelligence, gain a global mindset with sustained network of friends for regional networking among the development of Asia.
50 selected Asian undergraduate students will be offered to study a semester at NTU with tuition and living expenses covered.
Quantum
1. Each TF LEaRN @ NTU grant is tenable for an academic semester only or up to 6 months at NTU in Singapore.
2. Each TF LEaRN @ NTU grant (up to S$6,500) is aimed at subsidising the TF LEaRN Scholar’s airfare, accommodation, living expenses (including books and transport), and programme fees. It shall cover the following:

In order to strengthen collaboration between Indonesian and German researchers in the area of applied research and commercialization of research DAAD and Fraunhofer jointly award The DAAD –Fraunhofer Technopreneur Award 2016 to a young Indonesian researcher in the field of chemical science and engineering. Down streaming of research has become a focus of Indonesian research policy. Since the 1990s, global innovation processes have changed continuously. Newly developed products and knowledge are successfully creating new markets and revenues. Moreover globalization and transnational research have increased substantially. Researchers reach out to colleagues in other countries to join forces. The leading technology enterprises increasingly tend to follow this strategy.
Eventually The DAAD – Fraunhofer Technopreneur Award will be mutually beneficial to both, Indonesia and Germany. The German host institution’s strengths will be complimented by the guest’s special expertise and research connections in Indonesia. For German scientists and researchers it is important to increase knowledge by exchanging ideas with their Indonesian partners. For Indonesian researchers and their scientific institutions it is important to learn how to develop marketable products. Fraunhofer will provide infrastructure and expertise in the field of technology transfer. Working together will promote joint development of internationally competitive products. Thus The DAAD – Fraunhofer Technopreneur Award – to be awarded for the seventh time this year – will help to increase the entrepreneurial potential of Indonesian researchers.
What subject areas are funded?
The DAAD – Fraunhofer Technopreneur Award 2016 focuses on Natural Sourced Polymers. The subject of the theme is the chemical modification of Indonesian
local biomaterials, such as CPO, PFAD, used-oil, bagasse, palm sugar, etc. to generate synthetic building blocks for polymers. Preferable by-products, waste and reused materials should be in the focus of this work. The main applications for the polymers should be coatings, printing inks and adhesives.
Why that theme is important for Indonesia and Germany:
The use of renewable materials as an alternative to crude oil is a priority topic in the High-Tech Strategy 2020 of the federal government of Germany. Indonesia has a large amount of renewable raw materials, e.g. palm oil, palm sugar, bagasse, etc. Until today Indonesia predominantly exports crude palm oil. However, Indonesia’s long-term strategy is to produce more value added products not only for her own market, but also for export. Germany is an importer of natural sourced polymers/prepolymers. On the long term this theme will further foster economic relations between Germany and Indonesia in the field of natural sourced polymers and sustainable use of natural resources.
What does the award entail?
The award winner will receive prize money and a 3 months scholarship for a research stay at one of the 67 Fraunhofer Institutes in Germany. The respective Fraunhofer Institute will provide scientific guidance and supervision in the candidate’s fields of interest. The monthly scholarship will be Euro 2.000. In addition, a travel allowance will be granted, and the awardee will receive Euro 3.000 prize money. After successful application Fraunhofer and DAAD will support the awardee in his/her efforts to develop marketable products from the research and help him/her establishing contacts with potential co-
operation partners in German companies which would be able to produce these products.
Who can apply? This program is open to candidates with Indonesian citizenship who hold a PhD.

The AUN-KU* Student Mobility Program toward Human Security Development offers “Joint Supervision Single Master’s Degree Program,” which covers fields related to “food and water resources,” “environment and energy,” and “public health.”  The Student Mobility Program invites applications from students of the AUN member universities (listed in Section 3(1)) who would like to start research work at KU after June 1, 2016. The research work must end before February 28, 2017, and the duration of stay in Kyoto should be 3-6 months.

 What is the “Joint Supervision Single Master’s Degree Program”?
Students from the 30 AUN member universities listed in Section 3(1) will conduct research and complete theses under the joint supervision of professors from their home university and professors from KU. The main supervisor from the home university and the co-supervisor from KU will discuss and agree on a suitable learning schedule. Students will be required to move to Japan to conduct part of their master’s research at KU for a specific duration according to the agreed schedule. It is assumed that the basic duration of their stay at KU will be 3–6 months (the duration may be either extended or shortened with agreement from supervisors from both the home university and KU).
Research fields and corresponding departments at KU:
The fields of study in this program are “food and water resources,” “environment and energy,” and “public health.” Students participating in the program will study at either the Graduate School of Agriculture, Graduate School of Energy Science, School of Public Health in the Graduate School of Medicine, or the Graduate School of Asian and African Area Studies, Kyoto University.

Masaryk University, located in Brno, is the second-largest public university in the Czech Republic and the leading higher education institution in Moravia. At present it comprises nine faculties with over 200 departments, institutes and clinics. Recognized as one of the most important teaching and research institutions in the Czech Republic and a highly-regarded Central European university, it has been infused with a strong democratic spirit ever since its establishment in 1919. The university also plays a major role in the social and cultural life of the South Moravian Region.
The university is involved in a wide range of mobility activities and research programmes taking place in the European Union and other countries with the objective of enabling graduates of Bachelor’s or Master’s studies at other institutions to continue their Master’s or doctoral studies at Masaryk University. The same principle applies to Masaryk University students who wish to return to their almamater following a study period abroad.

The Nagoya University Short-Term Japanese Language Program (NUSTEP) offers two week of intensive Japanese classes. Participants will join specialized lectures by faculty and visit some of the laboratories on campus. We aim to promote a greater understanding of Japanese culture and society. The program also provides various on and off-campus activities such as cultural excursions, field trips, exchanges and discussions with Nagoya University students. All participants will receive a certificate upon completion of the program.
