Faculty of Medicine in Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Yogyakarta, Indonesia has been selected to host an international postgraduate training scheme for Masters and Doctorate level students, providing full scholarship for up to 50 awardees (2015-2019). The grants are available for students from low- and middle-income countries of WHO South East Asia and West Pacific regions. The training will be focused on the implementation research, which supports the identification of health system bottlenecks and approaches to address them.
The scheme, which is provided by TDR, the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases based at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, provides full scholarship. Only applicants from low- and middle-income countries of WHO South-East Asia and West Pacific regions are eligible.
The training will be focused on courses relevant to a career in implementation research. Implementation research is a growing field that supports the identification of health system bottlenecks and approaches to address them, and is particularly useful in low- and middle- income countries where many health interventions do not research those who need them the most. The goal of this scheme is to enhance postgraduate training capacity and boost the number of researchers in low and middle- income countries. Further information on implementation research is available from: www.who.int/tdr/publications/topics/ir-toolkit/en/
Ten (10) scholarships for Master Degree Programme will be offered in the International Master Programme in Public Health, leading to a MPH degree (2 years duration) for academic year 2016/2017. The programme is taught in English.
Recipients will be enrolled as postgraduate students, and their careers will be tracked with the new TDR Global alumni and stakeholder platform that will be launched in the next year, providing ongoing monitoring of the impact of the programme, as well as networking and increased visibility opportunities for students.

2nd INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC CONFERENCE ON TOURISM (2ndINTACT)
Theme: “Archipelago Tourism”
Specific Theme: Marine Tourism in Archipelagic Hemisphere
Website: intact.ugm.ac.id
The central theme of the conference is ‘Archipelago Tourism’ which would also be the tag line for the conference series. The specific theme for 2016 INTACT is ‘Marine Tourism’. This conference is aimed to discuss issues, paradigms, theories, concepts, polices and practical experiences on Marine Tourism in Archipelagic hemisphere.
In archipelago tourism, problem and difficulties may occur in social or natural issues, in developing destinations, managing destinations, or may be remote from either. The consequences may be either mild or relatively short term or have long term impacts on existing or future tourism industry systems. These would be seriously challenged to secure and maintain tourism development properly and it clearly does matter in terms of island visitation and awareness levels of archipelago areas. Thus it raises important issues to study. The data and empirical analyses about archipelago tourism remain limited; it needs to be empirically understood. It is, therefore, one need to have a forum to share the knowledge and expertise to welcome the new discussion. The forum that is proposed to deal with the issues is International Academic Conference on Tourism (INTACT 2016). This conference may trigger the tourism academicians and practitioners to become active in researching and publishing in the area of archipelago tourism.
Organized by Center for Tourism Studies Universitas Gadjah Mada, this conference will explore issues concerned with achieving environmental, social and economic sustainability of tourism alongside the governance mechanisms needed to support sustainable tourism especially in archipelagic areas. This conference should raise debate by stimulating discussion and exchange of ideas between tourism experts, tourism industry practitioners, researchers, lecturers, and undergraduate and postgraduate students from all tourism-related fields. Please pass on this news to your friends and colleagues who might be interested in join this academic conference. Should you have questions, feel free to contact us by email: intact@ugm.ac.id

Yogyakarta, Indonesia
This province is one of the most densely populated areas of Indonesia. The city came into being in 1755, after the Mataram division into the Sultanates of Yogyakarta and Surakarta (Solo). Gamelan, classical and contemporary Javanese dances, wayang kulit (leather puppet), theater and other expressions of traditional art will keep the visitor spellbound. Local craftsmen excel in arts such batiks, silver and leather works. Next to the traditional, contemporary art has found fertile soil in Yogya’s culture oriented society. Yogyakarta is often called the main gateway to the Central Java as where it is geographically located. It stretches from Mount Merapi to the Indian Ocean. There is daily air service to Yogya from Jakarta, Surabaya and Bali as well as regular train service and easy accessibility by road. Yogyakarta is commonly considered as the modern cultural of Central Java. Although some may prefer Solo as a good runner up, Yogyakarta remains the clear front-runner for traditional dance, Wayang (traditional puppetry) and music.
