This is to inform you of an opportunity for students under a Master’s program in development practice to undergo a funded research internship/practicum in IFAD projects.
This is an IFAD-funded project that the Columbia University is leading. FYI, SEARCA was part of a consortium led by SupAgro Montpellier that submitted a bid proposal for this same project but the consortium led by Columbia University was awarded the grant. Nevertheless, Columbia University approached SEARCA to tie up with our University Consortium to implement the program.
Each Master’s student that would qualify for the grant would receive a grant of USD5,000 and would spend up to 3 months in one of the IFAD research project sites. However, only master’s students of member universities of the Global MDP Consortium can qualify. Universities may qualify for membership if they have a Masters in Development Practice Program or its equivalent, where the applicant-student must be enrolled. If there are none, the Global MDP Consortium can give one-year support to the university to enable it to institute a MDP program.
Attached an Infographic that would give you an overview of this project >>> new-ifad-universities-win-win-partnership

The objective of the Spring University Prague 2017, “ Understanding Europe in an Age of Uncertainty”, is to provide students with a broad understanding of the most significant political and social issues in contemporary Europe.
Instead of relaxing at the “End of History” after the collapse of Eastern Bloc in 1989, Europe is facing new challenges at the beginning of the 21st century. These new challenges – including the economic and financial crisis, ageing population, complicated relations with Russia and Turkey, terrorist attacks connected with the activities of the Islamic State and most currently, the strong immigration flow – are raising concerns and leading to significant political radicalisation and social unrest. On the one hand, this challenging period raises feelings of uncertainty: Are we moving from solid to “liquid times”? What will “Europe” mean in the future? How does all this influence our everyday lives? On the other hand, this “Age of Uncertainty” is an ideal time to revise common approaches and look for new perspectives. We will, together, analyse and discuss the current development of Europe in an inspiring environment made up of students coming from countries all over the world.
The course provides an interdisciplinary approach and combines multiple learning methods, such as lectures, workshops, round-table discussions, field work, group-work and student presentations. Students will not only have the opportunity to explore a range of interesting topics and gain valuable insights into the current challenges and risks to the development of Europe, but will also have occasion to improve their research and presentation skills.
Moreover, there will be numerous free-time activities that will provide participants with a chance to enjoy the wide range of attractions that Prague has to offer.

The International Graduate Program for Advanced Science (IGPAS) was initiated in October 2004 as one of the first International Priority Graduate Programs supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, and Technology (MEXT). The lecture courses are taught in English, and the students are not required to learn Japanese language, although they are encouraged to learn it for their daily life. Scholarship opportunities are available for those who meet our qualifications and academic standards. Since its establishment in 2004 to September 2015, IGPAS has conferred 81 Master of Science degrees and 59 Doctor of Science degrees to students from 22 countries.
IGPAS is a 5-year graduate program combining a 2-year master’s program and a 3-year doctoral program. Admission for the 3-year doctoral program is also available. Each student is affiliated with one of 6 departments: Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy, Geophysics, Chemistry, and Earth Science. Each department determines its own curriculum and course requirements. Availability of classes varies depending on the semester and/or departments. Students may consult their supervisor about their research plan each semester before registration.
