Program Description:
Ritsumeikan University’s “International PBL Program in ASEAN Countries” is an education program focusing on “Project/Problem-Based Learning (PBL)” to develop flexible thinking in order to set tasks and solutions. By accepting students from a variety of countries and regions, a diverse range of students are able to work collectively to solve the numerous policy and social issues facing ASEAN countries and Japan. This program has been created on the basis of academic collaboration with partner institutions and Ritsumeikan University as one of the “FY2013 Inter-University Exchange Project” by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) to promote student exchange with partner institutions in ASEAN Countries under AIMS program (Asian International Mobility for Students program).

Eligible to apply for the JASSO scholarship. A monthly stipend of 80,000 yen
is offered for a period of 4 months (one semester students) or 10 months (2 semestersstudents).
This scholarship is offered by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO).
Applicants are screened by Ritsumeikan University.
As various important factors will be taken into account during screening, please
understand that not all applicants will receive the scholarship.

Eligibility

Applicants who meet the following criteria may apply for the exchange program.

  1. Those who have completed at least one semester of study at one of Sophia’s partner institutions as a degree-seeking student before submitting the exchange application.
  2. Those who are nominated by the home institution.
  3. For the undergraduate program: those who have graduated from high school or have completed more than 12 years of formal education before participating in the exchange program.
  4. For the graduate program: Those who have completed undergraduate work or have completed more than 16 years of formal education before participating in the exchange program. Applicants are expected to have a relevant academic background for their course of study at Sophia. Those who do not meet these qualifications will be asked to reapply to undergraduate programs or rejected them.
  5. The applicants should have a Grade Point Average of B (3.0) or better in the standard 4-level rating system (A, B, C, D) or equivalent.
  6. In principle, Applicants of Japanese-taught departments/ graduate programs are required to submit a Japanese-Language Proficiency Test N1 certificate.
  7. Applicants of English-taught programs from non-English-speaking institutions are required to submit one of the following English aptitude proofs.
    a. Minimum 79 on TOEFL iBT
    b. Minimum 550 on TOEFL PBT/ ITP
    c. Minimum 6.0 on IELTS(Academic)
    d. Minimum 730 on TOEIC**Non-native English speakers who apply for the Graduate Program in Global Studies are expected to have a higher English ability in comparison to the undergraduate program.
  • Minimum 100 on TOEFL iBT
  • Minimum 600 on TOEFL PBT/ ITP
  • Minimum 7.0 on IELTS(Academic)
  • Minimum 870 on TOEIC

Visiting students and non-degree students at the partner institution are not eligible.

  • The study abroad fee for Monash Australia will be $12,250 (4 units) and $9,187.50 (3 units)
  • The fees remain the same at either undergraduate or postgraduate level for all faculties.

  • Japanese Language Class (45min×42classes)
  • Field Study/Activity (4.5 hours and 3 hours. 7.5 hours in total.

Program Levels

– Introductory Class: For students who have studied Hiragana, Katakana, and basic expressions. (approximately 50 hours of study)
Please study Hiragana, Katakana and Basic Greetings by Meiji University e-learning system
(https://e-edu.muc.meiji.jp/contents/japaneseedu/)before joining the program. The Class will be conducted that you have prior knowledge of Hiragana.– Beginner Class: For students with very basic knowledge of Japanese, able to read Hiragana and Katakana and understand and use basic Japanese. JLPT N5 preparatory level.– Pre-intermediate Class: For students who can understand and use beginner’s level Japanese. JLPT N4 preparatory level.– Intermediate Class: For students understanding Japanese which is used in everyday situations for a certain degree.
JLPT N3 preparatory level.

*JLPT: Japanese Language Proficiency Test
*The class will be decided at the placement test conducted on the orientation

Japanese Language Program has been selected as one of the Student Exchange Support Programs sponsored by JASSO.

Meiji University will offer a scholarship (JPY80, 000) to students who belong to Meiji University’s partner institution, and meet the requirements set by JASSO.

*Please be advised that JASSO’s final decision if the applicants can grant the scholarship or not will be done around the end of January 2020. We cannot inform if applicants can grant the scholarship or not before paying the fee of the program.

[Japan] Nishimura Foundation International Scholarship at Osaka University

In order to promote international academic exchanges, Graduate School and School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Osaka University hosts foreign university academic staff who wish to pursue research projects in Japan.  They may be able to receive financial support from the Nishimura International Scholarship Foundation for their living expenses while engaging in research activities at Osaka University.

Eligibility

  • be a member of the academic staff of one of the eligible universities (except professors);
  • be enthusiastic about conducting research activities at Graduate School and School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Osaka University;
  • comply with the research policy of Graduate School and School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Osaka University (Please refer to the attached details of the research themes of each laboratory.); and
  • be less than 40 years of age (at the time of application).
