Faculty of Animal Sciences Universitas Gadjah Mada proudly presents the Short Course on Sustainable and Green Leather Technology: From Conventional Processing to Bio-Based Innovation.

The leather industry plays a vital role in the global economy, especially in emerging countries like Indonesia. However, conventional tanning processes often pose significant environmental challenges, including the use of hazardous chemicals, high water consumption, and waste generation. Addressing these issues requires a shift toward sustainable, eco-friendly, and bio-based innovations.

The Enhancing Sustainable and Green Leather Technology in Indonesia (ELEGTEC) project, funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ CBHE program, is a collaborative initiative between leading universities and institutions in Indonesia and Europe. Key Indonesian partners include Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Hasanuddin, and Universitas Mataram, working together with renowned European institutions such as Ege University, National Technical University of Athens, and University of Pisa.

Through this partnership, Centres of Excellence have been established to advance education, research, and innovation in sustainable leather technology.

Building on this foundation, the Short Course on Sustainable and Green Leather Technology: From Conventional Processing to Bio-Based Innovation offers international participants a unique learning experience. Combining theory with real-world case studies, the program positions Indonesia as a living laboratory for sustainable transformation in the leather industry.
