Kanazawa University is a prestigious public research university located in Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Japan. Founded in 1949, it is known for its high academic standards and contributions to various fields of research and education. The university offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs across disciplines such as natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, engineering, medical sciences, and more.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Primarily intended for individuals who wish to pursuer a Master’s or Doctoral degree at Kanazawa University
  • Must have university grade points of 2.30 (out of 3.00) or above
  • Applicants must be born on or after April 2, 1991
  • Applicants should apply for the field of study they majored in at university or its related field.
  • Language Profiency in English and/or Japanese

 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  1. Application Cover General Category
  2. Application Form for MEXT Scholarship
  3. Field of Study and Research Plan
  4. Letter of Recommendation
  5. Certificate of Health 2026
  6. Pledge to KU 2026
  7. Official academic transcript for all years of the last university/graduate school attended
  8. Photocopy of the university diploma or certificate of degree
  9. Photocopy of passport
  10. A Photograph (4.5×3.5cm; taken within the past six months, upper body, full-faced, uncapped)
  11. Summary of the latest thesis for a degree
  12. Acceptance letter written by a prospective academic supervisor from Kanazawa University.
  13. Certificate of official language (English or Japanese)
  14. For those who are currently employed, a letter of release/recognition from their supervisor
  15. Certificate of employment period

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. Applicants should contact the Student Affairs Division of the relevant graduate school as soon as possible, and no later than January 8, 2026. Kindly refer to this Mailing Address Information Sheet. Please note the following when emailing:
    – Please begin the subject line of with [MEXT2026].
    – Please include the following information in the body of your email
    o Applicant’s name and nationality
    o The graduate school and program (Master’s or Doctoral) the applicant wishes to pursue
  2. After getting recommendation, submit required documents to Kanazawa University.
  3. Deadlines for submission of documents vary by graduate school.
  4. The final decision is from Kanazawa University.
