ASEA-UNINET supports the exchange of knowledge between partner universities and member countries in Europe and South-East Asia. In this context, the network supports the exchange of scientists and postgraduates and the transfer of knowledge associated.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

  • The Ernst Mach Grant – ASEA-UNINET offers scholarships for full PhD studies, postdoc research stays and for studies in the field of music practice at an ASEA-UNINET member university* in Austria to students and researchers from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

 

TYPE OF GRANTS

1. Full PhD Grant

  • Target Group: Postgraduates who want to carry out a full doctorate/PhD-programme in Austria and fulfill the requirements for admission and who have completed their studies at a university outside Austria
  • Duration: 36 months
  • Grant benefit: 1,300 Euro per month + a travel costs subsidy of up to 1,200 Euro + a mobility subsidyof 300 Euro per month

2. Postdoc Grant

  • Target Group: Postdocs who are involved in teaching and research at an ASEA-UNINET member university* in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, or Vietnam
  • Duration: 4 to 9 months
  • Grant benefit: 1,300 Euro per month + a travel costs subsidy of up to 1,200 Euro

3. Music Practice Grant

  • Target Group: Undergraduates (or higher) in the field of music practice (instrumental and vocal performance, composition, and conducting)
  • Duration: 9 months
  • Grant benefit: 1,300 Euro per month + a travel costs subsidy of up to 1,200 Euro

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • Citizenship: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, or Vietnam (only applicants who hold the citizenship of one of these countries are eligible to apply)
  • Target Country: Austria
  • Area of Study: All fields of study: Natural Sciences, Technical Sciences, Human Medicine, Health Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities
  • Maximum Age: Undergraduates, Graduates and Postgraduates: 35 years; Postdocs: 45 years
  • Language Proficiency: Very good knowledge of English and/or German

 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  1. Research proposal (in the field of music: CV & Audition Registration)
  2. Written consent of the supervisor at the Austrian host university (for Music Practice: “Letter of Endorsement” from the Austrian music universities after successful auditions process)
  3. Two Letters of Recommendation by university lecturers
  4. Copy of passport
  5. University graduation certificates as well as an English or German translation

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. Apply directly to ASEA-UNINET. Kindly refer to the Application Guide. 
  2. The deadline is 01 March 2026, for Music Practice Grant: 15 December 2025.
  3. The FINAL decision is from ASEA-UNINET.
