Greetings from Korea!

Established in pursuant to the Korea Foundation Act legislated in 1991, the Korea Foundation has conducted and supported public diplomacy in various areas, including promotion of Korean studies, networking to foster international cooperation, art and culture exchanges and media projects in order to enhance the soft power of the Republic of Korea and promote friendly international relations.

We are pleased to inform you that the application for 2025–26 Scholarship for Graduate Studies and Fellowship for Postdoctoral Research Programs by Korea Foundation is now open for Universitas Gadjah Mada students.

 

Fact Sheet

 

1. 2025-26 KF Fellowship for Postdoctoral Research

  • The KF Fellowship for Postdoctoral Research (PF) is designed to support the full-time research of emerging scholars who have recently obtained a Ph.D. in a Korea-related research topic at a university or research institution located outside of Korea.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Scholars who have recently obtained or will soon hold a Ph.D. in the humanities, social sciences, arts & cultural studies, media & communications, contemporary Korean studies, or any other relevant field with a Korea-related research topic 
  • Have obtained a Ph.D. within the past five years from the start date of the fellowship period, OR
  • Be current Ph.D. candidates scheduled to receive their degree before the start of the fellowship period.
  • Have not been awarded a university position equivalent to or exceeding that of a full-time lecturer, or a senior researcher position at a research institution.  
  • Hold citizenship or permanent residency status in a country outside of Korea.*  

Note: Applicants who are Korean citizens must have already obtained permanent residency status in a country outside of Korea as of July 2025.

 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

 

  • Research proposal (Complete the form available on the online application portal)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Copies of letters to affiliated institutions
  • Copy of acceptance letter from the affiliated institution (if available)
  • Details about doctoral dissertation
  • Copy of academic transcripts of graduate degrees
  • Copy of Ph.D. degree certificate (if applicable)
  • Reference letters (Three (3) letters of recommendation (including one from the applicant’s doctoral supervisor)
  • Proof of nationality or permanent residency status

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. Apply directly to Korea Foundation. Kindly refer to the website attached.
  2. The deadline is 12 September 2025 (18:00 KST).
  3. The FINAL decision is from Korea Foundation.

 

 2. 2025-26 KF Scholarship for Graduate Studies

  • The KF Scholarship for Graduate Studies (GS) is designed to provide scholarship support to graduate students majoring in a Korea-related field or focusing on a Korea- related research topic at a university located outside of Korea.

ELIGIBILITY

  • M.A. or Ph.D. students in the humanities, social sciences, arts & cultural studies, media & communications, contemporary Korean affairs, or any other relevant field with a Korea-related research topic
  • Have enrolled (or are about to enroll) as full-time students at a university located outside of Korea.*
  • Have not previously obtained a Ph.D. degree.
  • Hold citizenship or permanent residency status in a country outside of Korea.**

* Please note that students who have enrolled (or are about to enroll) at graduate schools aimed at training professionals in specific fields, such as MBA schools, law schools, or interpretation and translation schools, are ineligible for this program.

 ** Applicants who are Korean citizens must have already obtained permanent residency status in a country outside of Korea as of July 2025.

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • In the meantime, the students are required to keep the hard file of all documents until further notice by the Office of International Affairs.
  • In case the faculty could not provide the letter of enrollment and nomination during this period, the official nomination through email from the faculty is acceptable. The official nomination could be delivered to head-oia@ugm.ac.id (cc to scholarship@ugm.ac.id)
