Greetings From Berlin!
We are writing to share information about the unique MA British Studies programme that is offered at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. We are open to student applications for enrolment in October 2024.
Why study British Studies in Berlin? For nearly 30 years, the MA British Studies programme has drawn students from all over the world to study Great Britain in the heart of Berlin. Taught entirely in English, this two-year interdisciplinary programme at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin has produced cohorts of students well-versed not only in various academic subjects with a UK focus, but also in interdisciplinary research, critical thinking, project management, and intercultural communication.
In their first semester, our students immerse themselves in the British context by studying the core subjects of the programme, such as British History, the English Legal System, Analysing British Politics, and Art, History, and Empire. In the second semester, they can also choose optional modules based on and tailored to their interests and goals. These modules include Popular Protest in the UK, Law and Culture, Monarchy and the Media, the Literary Field in the UK, and British International Relations. In their third semester, the students can put their skills to practice during a three-month work placement in the UK, Ireland or various British institutions and organisations abroad. After completing their placements, our students spend the remaining 6 months of the programme writing an interdisciplinary thesis.
If you are interested in exploring the UK in its complexity or have been looking for an interdisciplinary and international degree in Berlin, we encourage you to apply.
