Greetings from Tsukuba University, Japan!

 

The University of Tsukuba was established in October 1973, due to the relocation of its antecedent, the Tokyo University of Education, to the Tsukuba area. As the new concept comprehensive university in Japan to be established under a country-wide university reform plan, the University has featured “Openness” with “New Systems for Education and Research” under a “New University Administration.” The University of Tsukuba aims to establish a free exchange and close relationships in both basic and applied sciences with educational and research organizations and academic communities in Japan and overseas.

 

We are pleased to inform you that the Application for Tsukuba University – Students Exchange Program for Spring 2021 is now open for Universitas Gadjah Mada students.

Notes from Tsukuba University

  • The exchange program in Fall Semester AY 2020 was cancelled. For students who would like to postpone your program to Spring 2021, we request that you get nomination by your university again and re-apply for the program by following the steps below.
  • The exchange program in Spring Semester AY 2021 is planned to be conducted face-to-face. However, there is a possibility that the program will be changed to online or cancelled depending on the COVID-19 situation and the state of travel conditions including entry restrictions by Japanese government.

 

Eligibility 

  1. 3rd to 6th-semester undergraduate students (S1) & 3rd to 4th-semester graduate students (S2/S3)
  2. Enrolled in Universitas Gadjah Mada during the program
  3. Be proficient in English. Non-native English speakers must have a score of at least TOEFL ITP 550, TOEFL iBT 79 or IELTS 6.5.

 

Required Documents

  1. Official Academic Transcript
  2. Colored Copy of Passport
  3. JLPT Certificate (if you have any)
  4. Study Plan
  5. Certificate of Your Staying in Japan (If you have experience staying in Japan for purposes other than tourism)
  6. Letter of Enrollment from Faculty
  7. Letter of Nomination from Faculty (addressed to the Head of Office of International Affairs UGM)
  8. English language proficiency certificate 
  9. Curriculum Vitae
  10. Motivation Letter
  11. Passport-size photo (4 pieces, 3 x 4 cm, white background color, taken within the past three months)
  12. Confirmation Letter of Participation (download)

 

Application Procedure

  1. Submit the aforementioned documents to UGM International Exposure Application Form: http://ugm.id/IntExposureApplication and send the hard file documents to OIA UGM Bulaksumur F13 no later than November 7th, 2020 for internal review 
  2. OIA staff will evaluate your application. Once you are selected as Nominated Applicants, OIA will confirm your official nomination to Tsukuba University  
  3. The FINAL decision from Tsukuba University 

 

IMPORTANT NOTES:

    • In the meantime, the students are required to keep the hard file of all documents until further notice by the Office of International Affairs.
    • In case the faculty could not provide the letter of enrollment and nomination during this period, the official nomination through email from the faculty is acceptable. The official nomination could be delivered to head-oia@ugm.ac.id (cc to scholarship@ugm.ac.id).
    • Application of outgoing mobility for spring/even semester in AY 2020/2021 will be processed but the implementation/execution will carefully consider the latest development of COVID-19 and government’s regulation.
    • Possibility of online teaching, depending on the COVID-19 situation.
    • The Japanese government has already announced the idea of gradual deregulation of the policy, “phased measures for resuming cross-border travel”; however, we would like to advise your students to consider possible expenses pertaining to this policy such as COVID-19 testing before coming to Japan and accommodation for self-quarantine. (Those restrictions will be gradually removed, so actual expenses must be depending on effective policy at the time of their arrival.)
