Good Luck, IISMA Awardees!

Thursday (9/9), the Office of International Affairs (OIA) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a Discharge and Pre-Departure event for Recipients of the Indonesia International Student Mobility Award (IISMA) 2021. This event was held online via Zoom Meeting, and was attended by IISMA awardees from Gadjah Mada University (UGM). This year, there were 109 students who were accepted as IISMA awardees from UGM, which made UGM the campus with the most awardees at this inaugural IISMA.

This event is divided into two sessions, namely the release session and the pre-departure session. The release session was filled by the Vice Chancellor for Cooperation and Alumni (Prof. Dr. Paripurna, SH, M.Hum., LL.M.) together with the Vice Chancellor for Education, Teaching and Student Affairs (Prof. Dr. Ir. Djagal Wiseso Marseno , M.Agr.). In this session, Paripurna and Djagal gave a message for the awardees to always be adaptive but still maintain the good name of the country and campus. In addition, both of them advised the awardees to make the best use of this opportunity to increase their experiences and connections.

Faced with the Covid-19 pandemic, the community has made numerous attempts to maintain health and boost body immunity in order to protect themselves from the disease. The utilization of herbal substances derived from spices was one of the initiatives made at the time.

Indonesia, which must be noted, boasts a wide variety of spices. Spices in the house, according to various studies, can boost the body’s immune system.

The many types of spices and their various benefits are difficult to remember. In reality, many members of today’s youth are unfamiliar with spices, both their names and varieties.

[Scholarship] Hongkong PhD Fellowship Scheme

Established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong in 2009, the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) aims at attracting the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD studies in Hong Kong’s universities.

The fellowship provides a monthly stipend of HK$26,900 (approx. US$3,400) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$13,500 (approx. US$1,730) per year for a period of three years.  300 fellowships will be awarded for PhD studies commencing in the 2022/23 academic year.

We would like to announce that nominations for the PBL Exchange Program 2022 Spring Semester Intake is now open.

Ritsumeikan University’s “International PBL Program in ASEAN Countries” is an education program focusing on “Project/Problem-Based Learning (PBL)” to develop flexible thinking in order to set tasks and solutions.

This program has been created on the basis of academic collaboration with partner institutions and Ritsumeikan University as one of the “FY2013 Inter-University Exchange Project” by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) to promote student exchange with partner institutions in ASEAN Countries under AIMS program (Asian International Mobility for Students program). Students will belong to the College of Policy Science (Osaka) or the College of International Relations (Kyoto). The program duration is one semester or two semesters.

Founded in 1887 by the philosopher Enryo Inoue, Toyo University is the only private university in Japan that puts “philosophy education” into practice. At that time, Japanese public was being swept away by rapid changes in values as new cultures pressed following Japan’s opening to the world. That inspired him to raise a school that respect and enables students to develop their own perspectives and insights. 

Toyo University has continued to preserve its founding spirit and continues to expand today. With over 130 years of history, Toyo University is currently has to 13 faculties. That makes Toyo University is a  comprehensive university that gives students the opportunity to study in a broad range of fields, from the humanities to science.

Student Team from UGM Wins 4 Awards at the ASEAN Level ARC Competition

The UGM All Can Eat Meat team consisting of I Nyoman Anggie Pratistha (Food Technology and Agricultural Products 2019), I Putu Fadya Rachmawan (Instrumentation and Control Engineering Technology 2019), and Gusti Putu Surya Govinda Atmaja (Mechanical Engineering 2019) managed to win 4 titles at the 7th Southeast Asian Agricultural Engineering Student Chapter Annual Regional Convention (ARC) 2021 Universiti Putra Malaysia event organized by the Malaysian Society of Agricultural Engineers on August 10, 2021. The four titles won were 1 gold medal for research output model video presentation competition for the food engineering category, 1 bronze medal for poster competition in the green technology category, 1 bronze medal for best paper in the food engineering category, and 1 Most Favorite Poster in the green technology category.

The Role of Wayang as a Communication Media in Facing the Covid-19 Pandemic

Wayang is a form of communication that has been around for a long time in Indonesia and is being used today. Prof. Kasidi of ISI Yogyakarta’s Department of Puppet Arts, Faculty of Performing Arts, stated shadow puppets are one among the communication channels being utilized to combat the current Covid-19 pandemic. Wayang kulit performances are frequently utilized to convey concepts regarding the efforts in dealing with the pandemic.

“(Wayang plays a role) in transmitting new culture (habits), such as handwashing and wearing masks. The pandemic’s problem is like this, so we have to do this,” Kasidi remarked on Saturday during a webinar titled “The Role of Puppets as Communication Media in Facing the Pandemic,” which was hosted by the Faculty of Philosophy UGM in honor of the Faculty’s 54th anniversary.
