Chuo University was established in 1885, in the aftermath of the Meiji Restoration. Firstly named Igirisu Horitsu Gakko (English Law School), the school aims to provide a broad legal education. Given their never-ending spirit to nurture their value “Knowledge in Action”, Chuo University has built its legacy by continuously doing academic research and practical education.

Now, Chuo University has grown into a comprehensive institution consisting of eight faculties, with two new faculties established in 2019. There are also seven graduate schools, two professional graduate schools, four affiliated high schools, two affiliated junior high schools, and nine research institutes. Their spirit of practical education also has been handed down from generation to generation. Many Chuo University graduates are active in a wide variety of fields, including the corporate world, as experts in law and economics, and as leaders in culture and sports.

Since 1947, Kangwon National University has gained a lot of teaching experience and has become one of the ten major national universities in Korea. Based on rich teaching experience, KNU provides international students with high quality and well-respected higher education. We have a diverse range of Korean language courses available for all levels and focus on practical conversation in order to improve the students’ overall Korean skills. The Yonsei International Summer School (YISS) opened its doors in 1985 and since then, YISS has become an integral part of campus life based on a unique blend of Korean and global cultures. YISS continues to grow and evolve, accommodating the needs of a rapidly changing student body and meeting the challenges of a fast-paced global society.

The 2022 program includes courses from the arts, culture, and humanities while also offering cutting-edge classes in management and economics, global issues, history, social sciences, and science and technology. YISS also presents the online courses to bring more options and flexibility to its students and their time in Korea. Moreover, a shorter, 4-week option is also provided to accommodate students that can only be away for a limited period of time.

About this course

Philosophy is a discipline for discussing basic questions about ourselves, our world and our relations to the world. Philosophical inquiry is therefore not restricted to any particular subject matter. This course will introduce the student to several philosophical thoughts from classic to contemporary era as well as the branch of philosophy and the classification of speculative and applicative philosophy.
