I am coordinator of international exchange between Universitas Gadjah Mada and Yamagata University, Japan. We have been recruiting students of UGM who wish to study in Faculty of Agriculture, Yamagata University for 12 month from September, 2019 to August 2020 on the scholarship of “Student Exchange Support Program FY2019 offered by Japan Services Organization (JASSO). We have been continued this program since 2013.

The title of program is “The education and research leader upbringing program to environment preservation through Agri-Food Linkage”. The students enroll as undergraduate special auditors or graduate special auditors and carry out research including laboratory work and field work under the guidance of a supervisor at Faculty of Agriculture, Yamagata University. Title of research is determined after discussion with the supervisor. The students also study some subjects such as seminar, intensive scientific English and Japanese language. Credit exchange between two universities is available. Tutors are assigned to each student for the purpose of giving special help outside of the classroom in order to promote his/her studies and research activities.

We are currently accepting the nomination and application for 2019 Fall exchange program.

[IMPORTANT] Information changes

Curriculum:

Our new curriculum (2017 Curriculum) will be applied to the exchange students in 2019 Spring. Please refer to the new “General Course List” and “List of restricted courses” on the above website. Course contents and subject name in 2017 curriculum differ from the 2011 Curriculum.

The minimum number of credits students are required to take per semester:

The exchange students who will enroll in APU in 2019 Spring and after, they are required to take the minimum of 14 credits throughout the entire semester AND weekly class hours must be at least 10 hours.

Course restrictions:

The same as before, exchange students may take any courses from both “College of Asia Pacific Studies” and “College of International Management”. However, some courses as stated in the list are restricted to register depending on the college which the exchange students choose.

Lastly, the course list for 2019 Fall semester is not available at this point. As we stated in our fact sheet, the list is released one month before the semester begins.

Regarding Fall Semester 2019 admission, we are currently in the process of accepting nomination.  As for student exchange quota, we would like to host up to 3 students per semester (September – January) / 1 student per year (September – July).

Ritsumeikan University’s “International PBL Program in ASEAN Countries” is an education program focusing on “international problem/project-based learning” which looks to provide necessary “multi-dimensional thinking skills” (technical thinking, business thinking, system design thinking) by accepting students from a variety of countries and regions to work collectively to solve policy and social issues such as Asian welfare, urban planning and development which ASEAN countries have been facing.
This program has been created on the basis of academic collaboration with partner institutions and Ritsumeikan University as one of the “FY2013 Inter-University Exchange Project” by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) to promote student exchange with partner institutions in ASEAN Countries under AIMS program (ASEAN International Mobility for Students program).

  • Would you like to expand your professional network within ASEAN and to learn first-hand how ASEAN works on issues related to science and technology?

 If your answer is YES, the 2019/20 ASEAN Science and Technology (S&T) Fellowship fits perfectly for you!

 Implemented by the ASEAN Foundation with support of ASEAN and the U.S. Government through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the ASEAN S&T Fellowship enables early and mid-career scientists who are citizens and residents of 10 ASEAN Member States (AMS) to contribute their knowledge and analytical skills to empower their national governments. Selected scientists, or fellows, will be embedded in national-level ministries in respective country to encourage policy makers to use more science-based approaches in their policy- and decision-making.

 For the 2019/20 ASEAN S&T Fellowship, up to 16 fellows will be chosen from ASEAN region to take part in the programme by focusing on these three priority areas:

   1.     Digital Economy

   2.     Innovative Startups

   3.     Science, Technology and Innovation for UN SDGs

 

The criteria for eligible applicant are as following:

     ·    Minimum master’s degree related to Science and Technology or one of the priority areas listed above

     ·    Citizen of an ASEAN Member State

     ·    Professional-level fluency in English

     ·    Maximum 45 years of age

Selected fellow will receive a variety of privileges such as monthly stipend (USD 1,200), mentorship from the government, professional development opportunity in a form of leadership and communication training, support to attend conferences and access to a growing network of opportunity to view regional policy processes and a chance to network and consult with ASEAN Senior Officials from AMS.

The application for Japanese Language and Culture Program at Kanazawa University(Program B)2019-2020 for two students majoring in Japanese and/or Japanese Culture is now open.

Kanazawa University will select the applicants to recommend to the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) Scholarship for the Japanese Studies Students. The result of the scholarship selection and the acceptance to the program will be notified to the applicants’ home university in July.

•  English language proficiency  (Min. Score of TOEFL – ITP=530, iBT 80 or IELTS 6.0)
• Photocopy of the Certificate of Japanese-Language Proficiency Test and the result sheet (For those who hold the certificate of the test Level 1, 2 or N1, N2 only.)

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

1) Submit the aforementioned documents to Office of International Affairs, UGM (Bulaksumur F-12) for internal review.
2) OIA will evaluate your application.
3) Once you are selected as Nominated Student, you can continue the online registration in host university website.
4) FINAL decision from Kanazawa University.

Please send all documents above in hardcopy (2 COPIES) to Office of International Affairs, UGM (Bulaksumur Block F-12) and  softcopy (compiled in 1 PDF file) to scholarship@ugm.ac.id no later than no later than February 14, 2019.

For academic year 2019-2020, we set a new application schedule.
Please read “J-PAC Deadline 2019-2020”, nominate your students and apply for J-PAC by the appropriate deadline.

We have 2 deadlines; nomination deadline and application deadline.  Please send “Nomination Sheet” by the nomination deadline first and then send your students’ application documents by post. Those documents should be received at Chiba University by the application deadline. If your university has some nominees, please rank the nominated students with the nomination priority.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
A document written in language other than Japanese or English must be attached with a Japanese or English translation.
(a) Japan Program at Chiba Application Form (Designated form)
(b) Plan of Study (Designated form)
(c) A letter of reference (Designated form)
˙A letter of reference should be written by an academic instructor at the applicant’s home institution who has known the applicant for at least one year.
˙It is preferable that a letter of reference is written by other academic instructor who writes a certificate of Japanese language proficiency.
(d) A certificate of Japanese language proficiency by a Japanese language instructor (Designated form)
˙A certificate of Japanese language proficiency should be written by a Japanese language instructor at the applicant’s home institution.
˙It is preferable that a certificate of Japanese language proficiency is written by other academic instructor who writes a letter of reference.
˙It is not required if an applicant studies Japanese by him/herself.
(e) Apply of a certificate of Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT)
˙Only students who have passed JLPT.
˙A printed copy of the online result is acceptable if an applicant has not received a certificate.
(f) A copy of scores of official TOEFL or IELTS score report
˙Only in case that an applicant’s Japanese language proficiency has not reached N2 of JLPT and English language proficiency is the low-advanced (equivalent to CEFR B2).
(g) An academic transcript from the applicant’s home institution (Original)
(h) A copy of the passport ID page
(i) 3 photos with size 3 cm×4 cm
˙One of three photos should be attached on the application form.
˙The photo should be taken and in full-face view directly facing the camera and in front of a plain white or off-white background.

(k) Motivation Letter
(l) Certificate of enrollment from faculty
(m) Letter of Nomination from faculty (*addressed to Head of Office of International Affairs UGM)
