Call for Participation
The World Congress of Global Partnership for Young Women 2016 takes place Monday, August 1 through Friday, August 12, 2016, in historic Seoul, South Korea. This year’s theme of “Creating Together: Capacity Building and Sustainable Development for Women” examines the concepts of women’s empowerment, capacity building, and sustainable development and women’s empowerment as a key process in achieving gender equality, and, through that, sustainable development, and the benefits to society as a whole. Important motifs of the Congress will be how concepts of women’s empowerment and sustainable development are inextricably tied together in terms of intra and inter-generational justice and, furthermore, what can be done, needs to be done, and is being done for women’s empowerment, both with regard to the building of a dedicated, enabling policy environment and means for enhancing women’s capacity as active change agents for sustainable development.
The Congress includes distinguished Panels in the following areas: ‘SDGs and Empowerment of Women’ and ‘Womenomics and Transformation’. Additionally, the Congress will host a Presidents’ Round Table dedicated to ‘Global Partnership among Universities’ as well as a Poster Session and Special Session, Student Contests (in the areas of ‘Career and Development’, ‘Health and Nutrition’,‘Information and Communications Technology’, and ‘Art and Design’), General and Selective Training, Field Trip, and Korean Cultural Night, all interspersed with multiple opportunities for networking. The Congress brings together leading scholars and researchers, prominent business leaders, and other renowned dignitaries to address critical women’s empowerment issues in contemporary society, and in particular developing world societies
Promising young women who are selected for participation will have the opportunity to not only engage the luminaries who will grace the Congress with their presence, but also to participate in various Student Contests. The Congress pushes the boundaries of women’s empowerment studies, explores core concepts and ideas, and creates new conceptual configurations for women’s empowerment – all of which shapes interdisciplinary discourses.
The World Congress of Global Partnership for Young Women 2016 is hosted by the Organizing Committee of the Global Partnership for Young Women with UN Women. Our Congress venues, Lotte Hotel and Duksung Women’s University, are located in Seoul’s bustling and scenic central and northern districts. Please note that venues are subject to change at the discretion of the Organizing Committee.
Submission Information
We will begin accepting submissions immediately 2016. All submissions must be in English, and all work should be original. Please see attached documents for complete guidelines and information on the Congress. An application form has been attached to this e-mail.
The official proceedings, and all associated materials, of the World Congress of Global Partnership for Young Women 2016 will be published in an open repository.

Kansai University is proud to announce that we will be providing scholarships to participants of our Intensive Japanese Language and Culture Course (IJLC) held in July, 2016.
As a part of commemorative projects in celebration of university’s 130th anniversary, we have established “Global Scholarship Fund” in the aim of further university globalization by enhancing student mobility with our prestigious partner universities. We hope that your student will take this opportunity not only to learn Japanese language, but also to experience Japanese culture on our campus.
Kansai University Intensive Japanese Language and Culture Course (IJLC) is for 2 to 3 weeks held in summer and winter. The purpose is to provide instruction to overseas’ undergraduate and graduate students not only in Japanese language, but also in Japan studies including field trips to Kyoto, Kobe, or Osaka, and Japanese culture experience which enable the participants to learn and understand Japanese language, culture and society from various perspectives.
Qualifications:
Must be enrolled at Universitas Gadjah Mada as a regular student.
GPA must be 2.3 or higher out of 3.0
※Please recalculate the GPA using the conversion chart if the GPA system is not out of 3.0. If the GPA out of 3.0 is not available, we accept applicants whose academic performance is recognized as the satisfied level by the home university.
Course Period: July 3 (Sun.), 2016 – July 23 (Sat.), 2016

The Okazaki Kaheita International Scholarship Foundation (The Foundation) was established in March 1990 to contribute to world peace and development by fostering people from the People’s Republic of China and other countries in Asia. This foundation strives to promote mutual understanding and international exchange as well as to pay homage to and immortalize the spirit of Okazaki Kaheita, a man who worked for mutual understanding, peace, and world friendship.
In order to promote friendship between Japan and Asian countries and to further the personal development of people in these countries, the foundation provides scholarships to students from Asian countries who wish to study in graduate schools in Japan.
Duration of scholarship:
The period of the scholarship will be three years, including one year of Japanese language study at a Japanese language school specified by the foundation or one year of auditing a postgraduate course, followed by two years of graduate level study.
The scholarship shall be terminated if the selected applicant failed to gain admission to a graduate school at a Japanese university within one year after his/her arrival in Japan.
Selected applicants who have not yet learned the Japanese language are required to pursue Japanese language study at a language school in his/her home country prior to coming to Japan. The foundation shall bear the language school tuition fees for six months, in addition to entrance fees.
Qualification: Anyone who supports the objectives of the foundation to build his/her own country and to promote international friendship, is outstanding in personality and ability, in sound health and is deemed to be in need of financial assistance for educational expenses, and who meets the following qualifications:
（1）Be a citizen of Indonesia
（2）Be a resident of Indonesia  on April 1, 2016
（3）Be born after April 2, 1992
（4）Academic Qualifications: Must have graduated from a university appointed by our foundation prior to March 31, 2017 and be able to obtain a letter of recommendation from his/her supervising professor
（5）Major: The field of study selected by the applicant must be the same as his/her major at the undergraduate level.（Preferably, the applicant should have selected the university of his/her choice and the supervising professor under whom he/her wishes to pursue graduate studies.)
（6）Language ability: Must be able to understand graduate level lectures taught in Japanese or English. Selected applicants who have not yet learned Japanese are required to attend a Japanese language course at a language school for 6 months （approximately 500 hours）prior to coming to Japan. Furthermore, the selected applicant shall be required to take the Japanese Language Proficiency Test held annually by the Japan Foundation.
Details of Scholarship
(1) Scholarship Amount
-Postgraduate student (graduate school) : \120,000/month
-Auditor of graduate course or during Japanese Language study : \100,000/month
(2) School and Examination Fees
（ⅰ）The foundation shall cover all required entrance and tuition fees （average sum of \700,000/year）. Cost of study materials, on the other hand, shall be covered by the selected applicant.
（ⅱ）The foundation shall bear school examination fees and all other related expenses.
(3) Outfit Allowance
-\100,000 shall be paid as funds for initial expenses to begin living and studying in Japan.
-\20,000 as part of the above amount shall be handed in the selected applicant’s own country when he/she receives the certificate of the scholarship.  Part of this amount shall be paid in US dollars in order to cover all correspondence fees with the foundation before coming to Japan. The remaining amount, on the other hand, will be paid in Japanese yen in order to cover all traffic expenses to reach the dormitory when the selected applicant arrive in Japan.
(4) Travelling Expenses
（ⅰ）ANA airline tickets shall be provided to the selected applicant for travelling to and from Japan, respectively to be used at the time of commencing studies and upon completion of our scholarship program.
（ⅱ）A round-trip ANA airline ticket shall also be provided to the selected applicant once during the second year of the scholarship period for home visit purposes to his/her country.
(5) Residence
The foundation shall provide, free of charge, one room in the ANA dormitory for each of our selected applicants who live in Yokohama or Osaka. Facilities: A single room of about 14 square meters with air-conditioning and heating, lights, desk and chair, bed and bedding, closet, telephone outlet, dining hall（food expenses to be borne by the selected applicant), cooking facilities（shared), bathroom and washing machines（shared）
(6) Traffic Expenses for Commuting
The foundation shall bear the public traffic expenses for commuting between the residence designated by the foundation （ANA dormitory　in principle）and the university（average sum of \200,000/year）.
(7) Others
（ⅰ）Counseling
The foundation shall provide information and consultation services on matters related to living in Japan and on university examinations.
（ⅱ）Traveling in Japan
1st year   :  a trip to Okayama, local area in Japan
（Travel expenses, boarding and lodging expenses to be borne by the foundation）
2nd year    : a trip to Kyoto and Nara
（Travel expenses, boarding and lodging expenses to be borne by the foundation）
a ski trip to Hokkaido
（Travel expenses, boarding and lodging expenses to be borne by the foundation）
3rd year  :  Free travel after the completion of study in Japan
An ANA domestic round-trip domestic airline ticket shall be provided to the selected applicant for travel to any one place in Japan（with supplementary travel expenses of a maximum of \100,000）.
（ⅲ）Medical Expenses
We require all the students to take out the mandatory National Health Insurance. The insurance will cover 70% of your medical expenses, meaning that you will need to pay 30%.  However, the students must pay the premium expenses of the mandatory National Health Insurance, which is approximately 1000 yen per month.

Since its foundation in 1961, Sophia University Summer Session in Asian Studies has provided the participants with the opportunity to study about Japan and explore the country’s relation to Asia and the rest of the world. By studying at Yotsuya campus in the heart of Tokyo, the students experience various aspects of Japanese culture and society, and witness the myriad ways in which all cultures of the world are reflected in the maze-like urban landscape of Tokyo.
Sophia University’s short-term intensive program, Summer Session for Japanese Language (and Culture, modified in 2015), started in June 2013. This six-week Summer Session is designed for students who are willing to work hard to improve their Japanese language ability through a remarkably intensive program organized in Japan. Different proficiency levels of classes are offered and students study Japanese in an international environment in the heart of Tokyo.
*Japanese Language classes will be three lessons of ninety minutes a day, Monday through Friday.
Session Period:
1. Summer Session for Japanese Language: Six weeks (June 6th to July 15th, 2016)
2. Summer Studies in Asia Studies: Three weeks (July 21st to August 12th, 2016)
Program capacity: 60 students per program period
Qualification :
1. The minimum GPA requirement for acceptance is 2.75 on a 4.00 scale or equivalent grades.
2. Applicants must attend all the classes to obtain credits unless there are any inevitable reasons to skip a class. Auditing is not approved.
3. For Summer Session for Japanese Language participants need a certain level of English proficiency to keep up with the classes, however, there are no specific requirements to prove their English ability. Meanwhile for Summer Studies in Asia Studies, the minimum required scores of English proficiency test for acceptance are as follows: TOEFL/PBT: 550, TOEFL/iBT: 79, IELTS: 6.0. English proficiency test score, has to be submitted.

Downtown Nagoya (Sakae) is a fifteen minute subway ride from the Nagoya University campus. By Shinkansen bullet train, Tokyo is only 1.5 hours away while Kyoto is 40 minutes. Nagoya incorporates a vibrant urban setting and unique cultural heritage located within a pleasant natural environment. The city is surrounded by mountains and sea providing outdoor and cultural activities throughout the year. Off-campus, students can enjoy diverse experiences including: sampling regional cuisine (such as kishimen, misonikomi udon noodles, miso-katsu), discovering hidden traditional streetscapes and visiting historical sites such as Nagoya Castle and Atsuta Shrine.
The Nagoya University Short-Term Japanese Language Program (NUSTEP) offers two week of intensive Japanese classes. Participants will join specialized lectures by faculty and visit some of the laboratories on campus. We aim to promote a greater understanding of Japanese culture and society. The program also provides various on and off-campus activities such as cultural excursions, field trips, exchanges and discussions with Nagoya University students. All participants will receive a certificate upon completion of the program.

1. Applicants should be currently enrolled as a degree-seeking undergraduate student in Universitas Gadjah Mada

The Kyushu University Summer Program, later renamed Asia in Today’s World (ATW), was first launched in 2011. From its inception, the seven-week program was offered intensive, rigorous undergraduate-level courses addressing the past, present, and future of Asia. Each year ATW hosts some 40 participants from leading universities of all over the world including Asia, North and South America, and Europe.
Kyushu University, home to ATW, itself dates from 1911, when it was founded as one of Japan’s original seven imperial universities. It has grown considerably in its first 100 years and now includes 11 undergraduate schools, 18 graduate school, four research institutes and a hospital. total student enrollment currently exceeds 19,300, while instructional staff number over 2,000. Some 2,100 international students from more than 90 countries are studying presently at Kyushu University.
Kyushu University is located in Fukuoka, a pleasant coastal city of 1.5 million people and the largest metropolis on the island of Kyushu. Thanks to its favorable location close to China and Korea, the city has prospered as Japan’s gateway to continental Asia from ancient times. In light of Fukuoka’s special history and strategic position, Kyushu University has made a focus on Asia of its educational mission.
 
ATW Academic Program
The ATW curriculum design provides a uniquely productive educational experience relating Asian Studies courses (ASC) to Japanese Language courses (JLC) in a synergistic learning opportunity for students. As they broaden and deepen their knowledge and appreciation of Japan and its neighboring countries through the ASC offerings, students are made aware of the various sociocultural contexts of communication, thereby enhancing their synthetic understanding of the Japanese language as developed in the JLC.
The program requires students to enroll for credit in two of four available Asian Studies offerings (see below) and in one skill level-appropriate Japanese Language course. Selections should accord with student’s home university study plan. Those who satisfy all ATW expectations will be awarded a certificate of program completion in recognition of their effort.
Asian Studies Courses
The Asian studies course component distinguishes ATW as a more comprehensive academic program that complements the study of Japanese language with edifying lectures on Japan’s sociocultural conditions and characteristics. Course topics are not limited to the Japanese scene but cover as well Asia more broadly and the Pacific region, which increasingly are playing a central role in the world. It is an valuable feature of the curricular variety that students are enabled to learn about Asia and Japan in multiple respects and from different perspectives.
ATW’s Asian Studies courses, taught in English, are presented by eminent scholar-specialists invited from around the world. ASC offerings planned for the 2016 program are follows:

On the 140th anniversary and also 15^th anniversary edition of the European Summer Program, Universite Catholique de Lille announces their 2016 European Summer Program that will take place in Lille, France.
The European Summer Program is designed for international student looking for short study aboard experience in Europe. The session offered are both in June and July, with courses in and across various disciplines for which students may transfer credit back to their home university if they so wish. A comprehensive hospitality package is included, as well as cultural activities, such as French film nights and day trips to Bruges and Brussels.
The European Summer Program is composed of two-month long programs (30 May to 25 June, and 28 June to 23 July). The programs offer academic courses taught in English or in French utilizing the University’s expertise in Humanities, Social Sciences, and Business; Science and Engineering; and Law Courses provide both theoretical background and practical learning through site visits and hands-on activities; most include an important Intercultural Communication study component.

GC summer program is the international summer program initiated by collaboration on global engagement of KHU and UPenn at 2006. It’s themed summer program and all courses are related to Humanity, Civilization and Global Governance. It’s 4-week program at July. First three week will be academic weeks with courses and the last week will be Korean Culture week with various programs including meeting Korean Pop stars. This year, we will have world-renowned scholars like, Slavoj Zizek of University of Ljubljana, Mary Tucker of Yale University, and John Ikenberry of Princeton University.
By participating GC summer program, students not only have a chance to meet world-renowned scholars but also experience Korean culture. There will be 21 courses offered this year with 1~3 credit hours. Please refer to attached brochure for the course list.
This year, there are new courses added: Taekwondo course, Cosmic humanity course, North Korean politics course and Korean studies courses. Students may enjoy variety of course selection.
For partner institutions, we offer special rate for participants and it will be lowered next year to be USD 1,000/student for participating the program and many of partners including new partners use this program as a stepping stone letting students get to know about KHU and Korea for a short time(one month). I’ve seen many students coming back for semester-long exchange students after experiencing GC summer program first.
