Science Communication Competition – First Prize is a Networking Trip to Europe!

 
The popular EURAXESS Science Slam 2015 has officially kicked off in six regions across the globe. The annual science communication competition takes place this in ASEAN, Brazil, China, India, Japan, and North America. The lucky winners will travel to Europe for the unique chance to network with research peers at one of Europe’s top research institutes.  EURAXESS Links ASEAN and its national partners, including RISTEKDIKTI, are organising qualifying events in THAILAND, INDONESIA, MALAYSIA, SINGAPORE, and VIETNAM.  The winner of each national qualifying event will compete for the title of EURAXESS Science Slam ASEAN winner 2015 at the live finals in Bangkok, Thailand on 3 November 2015.
 
WHAT IS THE SCIENCE SLAM?
The Science Slam offers a platform for young research talent to showcase their work outside of the formal constraints of a research lab or class room. Each slammer will be judged on the basis of his/her ability to capture the audiences’ attention with a precise, accessible and original introduction to their research topic.
What is the most creative way that you can think of to get anyone and everyone interested in your research project? Come and take up the challenge at the RISTEKDIKTI – EURAXESS Science Slam! In this presentation challenge, anything and everything goes! From live experiments to colorful props, you can use anything to share your research with your audience in an entertaining way!
 
 


 
WHO?
The competition is open to Indonesian students and researchers from any academic discipline, including the social sciences and humanities, and who are based in Indonesia.  Contenders must be Masters or PhD students, with on-going research activities, or full time researchers.  
 
WHEN?
The submission process for the RISTEKDIKTI – EURAXESS Science Slam is open until October 5, 2015.
 
HOW?
What you need to do to join the competition:
1.     Be creative and develop an original idea to present your research project to the world: Tap dancing, singing, old-school presentation, scientific equipment – all is allowed.
2.    Make a 3-minute video of your presentation in English.

THE PRIZE
The winner of the RISTEK-DIKTI-EURAXESS Science Slam national competition will compete for the title of the EURAXESS Science Slam ASEAN winner 2015 at the live finals in Bangkok, Thailand on 3 November 2015. Your flight and accommodation expenses will be fully covered.
The winner of the EURAXESS Science Slam ASEAN 2015 will be awarded a round trip to Europe where he or she will attend a scientific meeting along with the winners of the other EURAXESS Science Slams held in North America, Japan, India, China and Brazil.
He/She will also have the opportunity to travel to a European research institution of his/her choice!

We are pleased to announce that Ibaraki University is inviting applications for Ibaraki University Exchange Program for 2016. We are accepting a few full-time undergraduate and/or graduate students from your institution under the student exchange agreement between Ibaraki University and Universitas Gadjah Mada.
Eligibility
Applicants must be full-time undergraduate/graduate students Of Universitas Gadjah Mada.

  • Students who demonstrate academic excellence and personal integrity
  • Students who do not intend to seek a degree at Ibaraki University
  • Students who have a definite purpose and plan of study abroad and are expected to obtain benefits through studying in Japan
  • Students who, while studying at Ibaraki University, continue to be registered as a full-time student at UGM and return to UGM to continue their studies or to graduate from UGM, as soon as they complete the period of studying at Ibaraki University.

Period of stay

Ibaraki University International Exchange Project Scholarship
The applicant must be a student from partner institutions under the student exchange agreement with Ibaraki University. After examining submitted documents, the recipient of the scholarship will be announced. As special measures, the scholarship may be received preferentially by a student from a partner institution with the imbalance in the number of accepted students.
Students who are receiving scholarships (except for loans) more than 50,000 JPY per month, however, are not eligible for this scholarship. We will later notify partner
universities of the possibility that this scholarship can be granted to their students. Monthly stipend : ¥40,000 (up to 10 months)

TUFS Short Stay Winter Program 2016

This four-week intensive program is aimed at learners of Japanese language who are currently enrolled in our partner universities. Our courses are designed to be practical ones providing the participants hands-on exposure to everyday Japanese language through lectures and activities to be immersed in Japanese culture and society.
Classes will be divided according to the Japanese language proficiency of the participants and every course is designed to fulfill the needs of participants at different levels. Each class will consist of a small number of participants – 12 or less. While supporting the participants to improve their Japanese language skills, this program will provide invaluable opportunities to experience the real Japan.
This program includes various off-campus activities – a two day excursion to Kanto area and other culture-experience opportunities will broaden the participants’ understanding of Japanese culture. In addition, with the support from TUFS International Student Support Association, the participants will be offered on-campus activities as well – tea ceremony, Kimono try-on, flower arrangement, calligraphy, Go class and etc. Many opportunities to interact with TUFS Japanese students will also be offered throughout the program.
Courses
  • Beginner-Intermediate
    This course is designed to improve the learners’ basic communication skills through studying vocabulary and grammar, practicing conversation in different situations, using Japanese language in real life, and making a speech in easy Japanese.
  • Intermediate・Advanced
    These courses are designed to support the learners to acquire higher language abilities – reading, writing, speaking and listening appropriate for each level. At these levels, the learners are expected to make oral and written expressions by actively using vocabulary and grammar they have learned so far. The learners will research in a given topic from the textbooks (collect information and conduct interviews with Japanese people) and present the results to the class.
    Intermediate: The learners will be able to write short paragraphs about what one has researched or thought of.
    Advanced: The learners will be able to speak about social and/or cultural issues, compare one’s own country and others, and explain using graphs or diagrams.
Study Trip & Japanese Culture Experience
  • Two day excursion
    The participants will visit major sites and tourist attractions in Kanto area experiencing Japanese culture in this two day one night excursion.
  • Japanese culture experience
    For those who wish to participate in, a tea ceremony, Kimono try-on, flower arrangement,calligraphy, Go class, etc. will be offered at low or no cost.
Academic Records, Certificate of Completion & Academic Credits
A certificate of academic records will be issued to all participants. In addition, a certificate of completion will be issued to participants who have at least 80% attendance rate and completed all assignments. Please ensure with home institutions the credits issued by TUFS, equivalent to 90 hours (lectures + afternoon activities + off-campus trips =60 periods), are transferrable.
Scholarship
Independent Administrative Institution, Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) will offer scholarships for Short Stay participants. Those who wish to apply for the scholarship must fill out the scholarship related entries on e-apply. After comprehensive screening procedures, the results will be announced in late December.

  • This includes the costs of application, tuition, accommodation (check-in: January 6, 2016, check-out: February 6, 2016), textbooks, and a two day excursion.

Accommodation will be prepared by TUFS. In some cases, you may have to commute to school by bus or train.

Joint Post Graduate Scholarship Program In Science,Technology and Medical

We have the honor to inform your Excellency that The Chulabhorn Graduate Institute in collaboration with ASEAN Foundation, for academic year 2016; will award a number of scholarships to qualified candidates from ASEAN member countries t0 undertake Master Degree study in various fields in Science, Technology and Medical. This year, 5 (five) scolarships are available for ASEAN nationals (Except Thai citizen) who are interested to pursue a Master Degree at the CGI. Selection of successful applicants will be based on merit.

Eligibility

  • Scholarships are open to eligible applicants who is under 30 years of age and hols a Bachelor Degree a cumulative at least 3.00 in one of the following fields:

Sciences : chemistry, Biology, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Genetics, Microbiology, molecular Biology, Environmental Sciences.

Medical Sciences : Medicine, Medical Technology, Nursing, Pharmacy or pharmaceutical Sciences.

Winter Seminar on HSD and Energy Science in Kyoto University Japan

This seminar is designed for undergraduate students to study the concept of Human Security Development (HSD) and Energy Science. The main theme of this seminar is energy development, which is an important issue in Human Security Development. The participating students are expected to deepen their knowledge on human security development and energy science with the prospect of finding solutions to technological, socio-economic and political issues all over the world. The seminar will offer lectures and class discussions as well as organize field trips and cultural events. Applicants are not limited to engineering, economics, or science – all fields are welcome.

I. Criteria and eligibility

1. Target students: undergraduate students from the AUN member universities (see Table 1 below).
2. The number to be admitted: 10 students

II. Financial support
1. The AUN-KU Student Mobility Program toward Human Security Development will assume the following costs:
(1) A round-trip flight ticket; and
(2) Accommodation
2. Kyoto University will cover the accommodation costs.

III. Cost
1. Participation fee: JPY 10,000
This fee includes field studies and other necessary expenses during the seminar. All participants should pay the fee The AUN-KU Student Mobility Program toward Human Security Development on the first day of seminar.
2. Participants are also required to organize and pay the following costs:
(1) Travel expenses between the airport (e.g. Kansai International Airport, Osaka International Airport (Itami) ) and Kyoto.
(2) Fees related to visa applications
(3) Travel insurance: all participants shall be requested to buy travel insurance by themselves.
(4) Cost of meals

Scholarship
The first 10 applicants as selected by the AUN Secretariat will be eligible for a scholarship from JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization). The amount of this scholarship is JPY 80,000 per person (tentative).

SEARCA Graduate Scholarship (Masters & PhD ) for UGM Lecturer and Staff

The South East Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) is pleased to invite qualified Officer, Lecturer, and Staff member from UGM to apply the SEARCA Graduate Scholarship (Masters & PhD) in Agriculture and related fields for Academic Year 2016-2017. Applicants for both Master’s and PhD Scholarship must not be more than 30 year of age at the time of application.

PhD Research Scholarship

In November 2005, SEARCA established the PhD Research Scholarship, which provides financial support to qualified PhD students whose researches are relevant to the priority thrusts of SEARCA (See Scholarship Statistics).

The PhD research scholarship aims to:

  1. Provide PhD students the opportunity to use the resources and facilities available at SEARCA and its network of universities for their research;
  2. Produce quality research papers for publication; and

Enable them to work with SEARCA’s R&D personnel on mutually identified areas of concerns/interests in agriculture and rural development.

Scholarship Benefits

Research funds not to exceed USD 4,500 and optional internship at SEARCA for up to two (2) months. For those who will avail of the internship, additional scholarship fund may be allocated to cover travel expenses to and from SEARCA, travel and accident insurance, and stipend during the period of internship.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit the following requirements to SEARCA:

  1. Filled out SEARCA PhD Research Scholarship application form;
  2. Letter of application for the research scholarship which should be addressed to the SEARCA Director;
  3. Recommendation letter from the Dean of Graduate School of the university where the applicant is pursuing the degree program;
  4. Dissertation research outline/proposal approved by the Advisory Committee and Dean of Graduate School;
  5. Budgetary requirement for the entire research duly attested and recommended by the major adviser and Dean of Graduate School;
  6. True copy of grades for courses taken, certified by the Graduate School;
  7. Letter from the applicant certifying that he/she is not receiving any other research grant from any other institution. If partial funding has been obtained from other sources, applicant must submit a certification from the funding agency indicating the grant amount and items covered by the grant;
  8. Research timetable indicating the activities involved in the research, and the expected date of defense.

Full Master’s and PhD Scholarships

SEARCA’s Graduate Study Program was initiated in School Year 1968/1969. Over four decades, the scope of the Graduate Study Program has expanded to include institutional development, networking, and services to enhance graduate education in the region. SEARCA has also been providing services for administration of scholarship funds under the sponsorship of institutions other than SEAMEO.

For more than four decades SEARCA has awarded more than 1,500 scholarships to nationals of SEAMEO regular member countries, namely: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam to pursue advanced studies leading to master’s and doctoral degrees in agriculture, forestry, and related sciences. For Academic Year 2014-2015, SEARCA has now granted a total of 58 new scholarships, which brings us to a total of 128 current/ongoing scholars, as of February 2015.

Scholarship Benefits

Covers tuition and other school fees; travel allowance (round trip air ticket from home country to study post and local transportation); thesis/dissertation support; book and supplies allowance; health insurance; and a stipend for food, lodging and incidental expenses.

Application Requirements

Application forms and information brochures on the universities that may serve as study posts of SEARCA scholars are available at these Ministries and may be downloaded from here.

Each applicant is required to submit the following documents:

  1. SEARCA Scholarship Application Form (2 copies);
  2. Application forms for admission to the Graduate School of the universities where the applicant may pursue graduate studies under SEARCA scholarship;
  3. Official transcript of academic records of each degree completed (BS transcript for MS applicants and BS and MS transcripts for PhD applicants);
  4. Certification of employment;
  5. Brief description of the research the applicant plans to conduct for thesis/dissertation.  The research topic must be in line with the thrusts of SEARCA’s Tenth Five-Year Plan i.e., social equity, environmental integrity and regional economic integration by promoting food and nutrition security; value chains and agribusiness commodity systems; innovations and modern technologies; rural entrepreneurship; climate change adaptation and resiliency, natural resource management; sub-regional cooperation in trade and investments; and government policies/reforms that address rural poverty, inequitable growth, and environmental degradation.   6. Two copies of passport-size pictures of the applicant;
  7. Curriculum vitae;
  8. Certification from a medical doctor that the applicant is in good physical and mental health condition and is fit to undertake graduate studies;
  9. Official endorsement from the employer; and
  10. Results of Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): score of 550 for paper-based and 213 for computer-based) or IELTS results (6.0). The TOEFL results must be issued by Princeton, New Jersey, USA. Check the schedule and venue of TOEFL tests in your country at http://www.ets.org/toefl/.
