[Japan] Hokkaido University Degree Fellowship 2022 Admission Entry

Hokkaido University is one of the oldest, largest, and most prestigious universities in Japan. We are pleased to inform you that Hokkaido University Degree Fellowship for the 2022 Admission Entry is now open for Universitas Gadjah Mada students.

Application Guidelines

Eligibility

  1. Applicants must be current final year student (expected to graduate before admission at the University of Hokkaido) or alumni of Universitas Gadjah Mada. Applicants must be self-supporting, without other scholarships or fellowships when enrolling in Hokkaido University.
  2. Applicants must possess a GPA that is in the top 25% of their class or an equivalent level at their home university.

Length of the Fellowship

  • Master’s Degree: Maximum of 2 years
  • Professional Degree (Accounting and Public Policy): Maximum of 2 years
  • Professional Degree (Law): Maximum of 3 years
  • Doctoral Degree: Maximum of 3 years
  • Doctoral Degree in Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Infectious Diseases, or Clinical Pharmacy: Maximum of 4 years. *For research students before enrolling in any of the above (1) ~ (5): Maximum of 6 months

Scholarship Stipend

(1) Degree seeking students: Approximately 2,300,000 yen for the 1st year (apx 1,800,000 from the 2nd year) which includes application fees, enrollment fees, tuition fees (exempted), and the monthly stipend (100.000 yen). See Application Guidelines for more information.

Required Documents

  1. A completed Application for Hokkaido University President’s Fellowship (Form1 (申請書). Before submitting the application, please make sure to contact your prospective supervisor directly and consult with them concerning the topic and plan of your research.
  2. Consent letter written by your prospective supervisor (Form2 (受入内諾書)).
  3. Official Transcripts. For a doctoral degree, both undergraduate and graduate transcripts must be submitted.
  4. Scanned copy of Graduate Certificate (for alumni applicant).
  5. A letter of nomination from Faculty (for student applicant).
  6. A letter of enrollment from Faculty (for student applicant).
  7. A letter of recommendation from a supervisor at your university (no set form).
  8. Motivation Letter/Personal Statement 
  9. Curriculum Vitae
  10. Language Certificate (English: IELTS/iBT/Duolinggo and/or Japanese Language: JLPT)
  11. Official candidacy announcement from your university’s president to the President of Hokkaido University (this will be issued by OIA UGM upon selection of the nominee/s).

Application Procedure

  1. Applicants must submit the aforementioned documents to UGM Application Form: http://ugm.id/IntExposureApplication no later than November 30th, 2021 for Hokkaido University Degree Fellowship
  2. OIA staff will evaluate your application and only 1 applicant will be nominated. Once you are selected as Nominated Applicants, OIA will confirm your official nomination to Hokkaido University and you may proceed to further selection by Hokkaido University. Applications sent directly from the applicant will not be accepted by Hokkaido University.
  3. The FINAL decision from Hokkaido University.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • The implementation/execution of this program will be carefully reconsidered depends on the latest development of COVID-19 and the government’s regulation
  • In the meantime, the students are required to keep the hard file of all documents until further notice by the Office of International Affairs.
  • In case the faculty could not provide the letter of enrollment and nomination during this period, the official nomination through email from the faculty is acceptable. The official nomination could be delivered to head-oia@ugm.ac.id (cc to scholarship@ugm.ac.id)
