HONG KONG – Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is taking part in the Asia Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) Conference & Exhibition 2026, held from February 23–27 in Hong Kong. A high-level delegation from UGM is actively engaging with global leaders to forge new partnerships and advance collaborative initiatives that will shape the future of higher education.
Representing UGM are Rector Prof. Ova Emilia, Director of Partnership and Global Relations Prof. Puji Astuti, Director of Research Prof. Mirwan Ushada, and Head of Partnership and Networking Team in OIA Adhe Nurcahyarini. Their participation underscores UGM’s commitment to fostering international cooperation in academia, research, and community service. Throughout the five-day event, the delegation connected with university presidents, policymakers, and education partners to build a more interconnected and resilient global education ecosystem.
Prof. Ova Emilia was a featured discussant in the prestigious President Dialogue, titled “Future-Profiling Education: Preparing Students for a World of Disruption.” In her remarks, she shared UGM’s vision for a transformative educational model.
“Future-proofing education means building resilient learners who can adapt, think critically, and collaborate with partners worldwide to address shared challenges, from sustainable development to technology ethics,” stated Prof. Ova Emilia. “This includes the vital necessity of designing our curriculum in a way that prioritizes the mental health of our students, ensuring they possess the emotional resilience to navigate the complexities of the modern world.”
Adding to UGM’s contributions, Prof. Puji Astuti served as a speaker in Concurrent Session 7A, titled “Regional Update Series: Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam”. During the session, she shared the key indicators to be the impactful of higher education institutions in Indonesia.
“For higher education to be truly impactful, it must be built on three pillars: providing equitable access to high-quality education, conducting research and innovation that directly addresses social needs, and maintaining the highest standards of integrity in governance,” Prof. Puji emphasized.
In a vibrant showcase of Indonesian higher education, UGM partnered with the Nationwide University Network in Indonesia (NUNI) members to open a joint booth at the “Study in Indonesia” pavilion. This collaborative space highlights the nation’s academic strengths and presents exciting opportunities for cross-regional partnerships.
UGM’s presence at APAIE 2026 is driven by a clear strategic vision: to expand and deepen its network of international alliances. The university is actively seeking to develop innovative academic programs, joint research projects, and create impactful community service initiatives with partner institutions, government bodies, and university leaders from across the globe. This proactive engagement at APAIE 2026 reaffirms UGM’s position as a leading force in shaping a more collaborative and future-focused educational landscape in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
