UGM Welcomes Palestinian Delegation to Foster Academic Cooperation

Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) had the honour of hosting H.E. Dr. Zubair S.M. Al-Shun, the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Republic of Indonesia, along with  distinguished delegates from An-Najah National University, Palestine on 15 January 2025. The visit aimed to explore potential collaboration opportunities between the two institutions, particularly in the areas of education and research.

The meeting was also attended by the representatives from UGM including the Directorate of Business Development, Directorate of Research, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and Faculty of Pharmacy. Prof. Puji Astuti, the Director of Partnership and Global Relations at UGM led the discussion .

During the session, Prof. Dr. Allam S.A. Mousa, a delegate from An-Najah National University, provided a comprehensive overview of his university. Continued by Prof. Dr. Waleed M.O. Sweileh highlighted several potential avenues for collaboration, stating, “We believe that through academic innovation programs, staff and student exchanges, and collaborative research, we can create a mutually beneficial partnership that enriches the educational experiences of our students.”

 

 

Ambassador Al-Shun also commented on the significance of the visit, saying, “This initiative represents not just an academic collaboration but also a bridge of understanding and friendship between our nations. We look forward to building strong ties with UGM that will lead to impactful projects and initiatives.”

The gathering emphasized commitment to fostering international partnerships that enhance educational and research capabilities. Both parties expressed optimism about the future of their collaboration, anticipating beneficial outcomes.  As UGM continues to strengthen its global ties, this visit marks a significant step towards establishing a fruitful relationship with Palestinian academic institutions.
