The University of Tokyo, also known and hereinafter referred to as “UTokyo”, was established in 1877 as the first national university in Japan. As a leading research university, UTokyo offers courses in essentially all academic disciplines at both undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research across the full spectrum of academic activity. The university aims to provide its students with a rich and varied academic environment that ensures opportunities for both intellectual development and the acquisition of professional knowledge and skills.
We are pleased to inform you that the Application for UTokyo Student Exchange Program (USTEP) for Spring 2021 is now open for UGM students.
Scholarship
A Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Scholarship for all students who meet the requirements as well as scholarships from private foundations may be available. The JASSO scholarship application will be provided once students are successfully accepted for USTEP.
*Please note that admission to the USTEP program for Spring 2021 may be canceled in light of the current global pandemic and related global situations. Any updates will be communicated to UTokyo partners.

Eligibility
- 3rd to 6th-semester undergraduate students (S1)
- 3rd to 4th-semester graduate students (S2)
- Enrolled in Universitas Gadjah Mada during the program
Required Documents
- Current Official Academic Transcript (Both Type U and Type G Applicants)
- Official Academic Transcript of Undergraduate Degree (for Type G applicants only)
- Colored Copy of Passport (Identification Page)
- English language proficiency (Min. Score of TOEFL – ITP=530, iBT 80 or IELTS 6.0 | It will be better if all applicants could complete the minimum score by UTokyo – please check the overview information)

- Letter of Nomination from Faculty (addressed to the Head of Office of International Affairs UGM)

- One Photo in a JPG file for the application (3.5 x 4.5 cm, white background color, taken within the past three months, file size: less than 2 MB)

Application Procedure
- Submit the aforementioned documents to the Office of International Affairs, UGM for internal review.
- OIA staff will evaluate your application.
- Once you are selected as Nominated Applicants, OIA will send your nomination to the University of Tokyo for host-university selection.
- THE FINAL decision from the University of Tokyo.
- Priority will be given to students who have decided to defer the exchange program from Fall Semester 2020 to Spring 2021 due to Covid-19 Pandemy Mobility Restriction Policy from Universitas Gadjah Mada.
- In the meantime, the students are required to keep the hard file of all documents until further notice by the Office of International Affairs.
- In case the faculty could not provide the letter of enrollment and nomination during this period, the official nomination through email from the faculty is acceptable. The official nomination could be delivered to head-oia@ugm.ac.id (cc to scholarship@ugm.ac.id)

Application of outgoing mobility for fall/odd semester in AY 2020/2021 will be processed but the implementation/execution will carefully consider the latest development of COVID-19 and government’s regulation.
