Are you looking for an inspiring way to experience the European summer? The CuriousU experience (13 – 22 August 2017) is a one-of-a-kind combination of a European summer school and a festival: academic courses, music, sports, theatre, inspirational speakers, hosted by the University of Twente (the Netherlands).
This summer, the University of Twente will host the third edition of its annual summer school: CuriousU. From 13 August until 22 August 2017, we will offer tracks that make us unique, covering topics that combine high tech with a human touch. Students can take courses on topics such as serious gaming, health, smart cities, entrepreneurship and physics. CuriousU is intended for second-to-last or last year Bachelor’s students and entry level Master’s students. However, it is also open for anyone with a broad interest and a curious mind.

The goal of the YRS is to provide graduate students with an opportunity to better understand the spectrum of challenges that underpin sustainable development. By assembling young researchers from ProSPER.Net institutions for an intensive 10-day programme, the school also fosters the growth of a network of sustainability scholars and professionals in the Asia-Pacific region.
The theme of the 2017 school will be ‘Water Security for Sustainable Development in a Changing Climate’. A preliminary programme outlines the ways in which students will be exposed to issues related to water security in the context of climate change. Students will then be asked to develop research responses to several challenges related to water security in the region. The goal of these responses is to provide integrative solutions that can be applied in communities facing water security issues.

PROGRAM

This programme is designed to provide students with valuable learning opportunities as well as a platform to contribute ideas. Features of the programme include:
– Team building and group work on discovering research questions and developing proposals on sustainability issues.
– Development of communication skills through presentation of research plans developed during the school as well as for the students’ own dissertations.     These will be discussed with resource persons and scholars from HCM-IU and UNU-IAS.
– Field trips to learn about water management in Vietnam and engage with local experts and communities.
 

SCHOLARSHIP

A limited number of scholarships are available which will cover the costs of Young Researchers’ School tuition, round-trip economy class ticket to and from Ho Chi Minh, accommodation, visa processing fee (if applicable) and most meals, except for travel insurance, which shall be the participant’s responsibility

Chemnitz University of Technology offers within the project “InProTUC” (Doing your doctorate at Chemnitz University of Technology) scholarships for PhD-students from its international partner universities, who are planning to conduct thesis-related research at Chemnitz University of Technology. Young academics can spend up to three month at Chemnitz University of Technology for a research visit.
Also graduates from international partner universities of Chemnitz University of Technology who are taking into consideration to do a doctorate at Chemnitz University of Technology are entitled to apply for funding of a contact/information visit at Chemnitz in order to get to know the prospective supervisor and the facilities. It is a special program designed for international students from affiliated universities around the world. It offers a unique curriculum of Japanese language classes and courses in the students’ major in English and Japanese. Participating student deepen their knowledge and understanding not only of their major field study, but also of Japanese society and people, through academic work and meaningful interactions with Japanese students and local people.
Saga Prefecture is in northwest Kyushu. Since ancient times, people in Saga have been enjoying exchanges of people, ideas, technologies and goods with China, Korea, and Southeast Asia because of this geographical advantage.
 
Types of academic program:
SPACE-J: Students register in regular courses taught in Japanese. Both undergraduate and graduate students can participate. We recommend that you choose SPACE-J if you already have high Japanese language proficiency and have passed the Level 2 or higher JLPT.

[South Korea] Chung-Ang University – International Winter Program 2017 (Session 2)

Established in 1918, Chung-Ang University has been a leader in globalization, a pioneer in education, and has been called the “Cradle of Education” in Korea. Initially established as the Chung-Ang Kindergarten at the Chung-Ang Methodist Church in 1918, it has now become a leading private university in Korea. CAU’s International Winter Program (IWP) is a hybrid program providing students with a window into Korea, where courses are coupled with cultural experiences that foster an understanding of Korea’s Culture and Society. Our program is broken into two sessions, Session 1 and Session 2 for the first time during the winter. Session 1 will provide students with 2 (two) transferable credits while Session 2 will provide students with 4 (four) transferable credits.

TOPICS OFFERED

CAU is the best university for Korean Culture and Arts. CAU IWP will offer unique opportunities to learn and experience Korean Culture in: society, history, religion, arts, and political issues; almost everything in Korea today through a variety of cultural activities and excursions. The IWP will have students take an in-depth look at Korean Pop Culture, Travel to Jeonju Hanok Village (for Session 1), go on a ski trip (For Session 2), or experience many other events.

 Session 1 will offer Special Lectures from the CAU Business Department on topics such as:
 
l  Korean Online Game Industry
l  Korean Economy and Business
l  Korean Entertainment Industry & Hallyu

 Students can get 1 credit from these lectures and 1 credit from Korean Culture and Society courses (through Practical Korean class, Special Lectures & Cultural Events). While Session 2 offers a Korean Language course (2 credits) and a Korean Culture and Society course (2 credits).

[Japan] Kanazawa University – Japanese Language and Culture Program 2017

This program is designed for students from the institutions that have an exchange agreement with Kanazawa University who intend to study at Kanazawa University for one year. It aims to provide students from overseas with an opportunity to improve their proficiency in Japanese language and to deepen their understanding of Japanese culture and society.

ELIGIBILITY

1. as undergraduate students (junior or senior) majoring in Japanese language or Japanese culture at the time of arriving in and leaving Japan
2. A level equal to that of Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level N2 is required.

SCHOLARSHIP

1) Monthly Allowance: 117,000 yen
The scholarship will be paid to each recipient from October 2017 to August 2018. The scholarship is cancelled in principle if the recipient is absent from the university for an extended period.
2) Travel allowance: round-trip air ticket to and from Japan
(Scholarship recipients must depart from and return to the country of their nationality. The return ticket will be given to only those who will leave Japan until the end of August, 2018.)
3) Tuition fees: to be waived

[Japan] Meiji University – Cool Japan Summer Program 2017

Meiji University Cool Japan Summer Program is a 13 day program, comprised of a series of lectures, workshops and field trips on a wide variety of subjects relating to Japan’s contemporary images — from manga, anime and music, to fashion, the latest technology and cuisine. This program will investigate the diverse aspects of Japanese society and uncover their underlying traditional elements as well. English will be used throughout the course, so Japanese Language ability is not required. For 2017, participant will be traveling to Nagano (Yamanashi) prefecture, to experience nature and traditional aspects of Japan outside the city! Participants will have a chance to see fireworks over the lake wearing a Yukata as well.

Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), in partnership with Chiba University and ASEAN University Network (AUN), is going to organise the Spring School Programme: “Walking along the Path of Japan’s Modern History, Culture & Heritage, and Contemporary Society”, from 13 – 23 March 2017 in Japan. The programme offers ASEAN students a unique opportunity to study and expose to Japan’s modernisation, its history, culture, heritage, as well as the development of the society specifically through a wide range of corporations and industries.

SCHOLARSHIP

Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) offers each participant JPY 80,000 as scholarship to cover local expenses in Japan and the spring school tuition fees are waived under AUN – SUN/SixERS agreement.
Out of JPY 80,000, as much as JPY 40,000 is subtracted for:

– Local accommodation (13 – 22 March 2017, total 10 nights), including breakfast
– Airport pickup from Narita International Airport
– Welcome and farewell receptions
– Train transportation (bus expenses waived)
– Entrance fees
It follows that remaining JPY 40,000 (minimum) is available as stipend for individual participant’ all lunches and dinners (except for welcome and farewell receptions), expenses for one free day (March 18, apart from breakfast), individual transportation expense back to the airport on March 23.

The scholarship is NOT covered:

– Round-trip air ticket (to and from Narita International Airport, Japan)
– Visa processing fee
– Travel insurance
– Medical checkup before departure to Japan
– Personal expenses
