[Japan] Tohoku University – Siebold Program 2018

The Siebold Program at Tohoku University in the city of Sendai offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate students interested in Japan to take classes and conduct research while experiencing life in Japan. Set in a regional capital pairing the convenience and excitement of a modern urban locale with celebrated natural beauty, the program offers access to the resources of a major national university to provide academic training and an overseas experience unequalled anywhere in the world.
Currently in its second year, the Siebold Program has welcomed more than 20 exchange scholars from its affiliated universities in Europe and Asia to study subjects in the humanities and social sciences at Tohoku University’s Faculty of Arts and Letters. Along with academic and language training, participants enjoy social outings, field trips to historical and other sites, and dedicated spaces for conversation and exchange with Japanese students. The Siebold Program provides both a comprehensive grounding in academic techniques and a guided immersion in Japanese society with the goal of producing the next generation of Japanese scholars and researchers.

This 4-week intensive Japanese Studies Program provides international undergraduate students who have an interest in Japanese culture, a good opportunity to study various aspects of Japan — traditional, modern and contemporary. You can choose from weekday courses which may be of interest to you, as well as the chance to go on weekend excursions in and around the Saitama/Tokyo area. All classes will be conducted in English, and an introductory Japanese language class will also be available for those who wish to start leaning this interesting and unique language.

Waseda University Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies International Relations Program was selected for the International Priority Graduate Program (PGP) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).
The PGP program, which was created by MEXT to support programs which have international appeal to foreign students, provides priority allocation for government financed foreign students.
Students should apply for the scholarship to GSAPS. GSAPS selects students and recommend them to the Japanese Government. The Program will continue from 2018 to 2020. A detailed outline of the selected program and the application procedure are as follows.

The School of Engineering at the University of Tokyo will be holding its 2018 Summer Program, called ESEP (Engineering Summer Education Program) from June 25 to August 10, 2018. This program offers top-class international undergraduate and graduate students a short-term research experience in the basic and translational sciences in our world-leading laboratories.

An outline of the program is as below.
1. Schedules
3-6 weeks between June 25, 2018 and August 10, 2018.
(program start date and duration vary depending on laboratory.)
2. Applicants
Undergraduate applicants must have completed at least two full years of study in a bachelor’s
degree program by the time the program begins.
Applicants must remain enrolled at their current home university until the ESEP program ends.
3. Number of participants
Maximum 20 students
4. Financial support
・Stipend: JPY 80,000
・Accommodation: off-campus accommodation

[Japan] University of Tokyo – Sato Yo International Scholarship for Exchange Students in September 2018

The University of Tokyo (UTokyo) accepts exchange students from partner universities with which the University has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding concerning student exchange. Exchange students can choose between the Type G and Type U programs.
The Type G program is designed for graduate students. Type G participants will belong to one of the Graduate Schools which they applied for and be able to take various courses or conduct research under the guidance of faculty members.
The Type U program is designed for undergraduate students to take various courses given in English and/or Japanese in the various Faculties in accordance with their English and/or Japanese language proficiency.

In the French language track, students take classes at one of six levels adapted to their knowledge of the French language.  In the social sciences track, students choose one core class for intensive study. [Japan] Fukuoka Women's University – World of Japanese Contemporary Culture Fall 2018 – Spring 2019

Fukuoka Women’s University is offering its short-term study abroad program to ambitious international female students focusing on Japanese culture from September, 2018 to August, 2019.
 
The WJC program was established in 2010 as a milestone in the Fukuoka Women’s University’s internationalization effort. The program grants participants from each partner university a scholarship. Based on the availability of student positions and the number of applications from partner universities, a total of 25 to 30 students will be selected as participants. Only female students are eligible for WJC.
 
It is desirable (and important for us to maintain diversity of a student body) that applicants come from various academic fields, such as liberal arts, social sciences and natural sciences as well as Japanese studies majors.
