[Japan] University of Tokyo – Amgen Scholars Program 2025

Greetings from the University of Tokyo (UTokyo)!

We are very pleased to announce that UTokyo will continue to provide hands-on laboratory experience to undergraduate students through the Amgen Scholars Program in 2025 as one of the host universities of the Amgen Scholars Asia Program.

The UTokyo Amgen Scholars Program invites undergraduate students from Gadjah Mada University to gain hands-on laboratory experience in the fields of Science and Biotechnology during the summer of 2025. Students from colleges and universities across the Asia region are eligible to apply, and the program is fully funded, covering stipends, travel, accommodation, and excursions.

Opportunities for the students to gain valuable hands-on experience in research will be provided in five graduate schools and one research institute of UTokyo:

  • Graduate School of Medicine
  • Graduate School of Engineering
  • Graduate School of Science
  • Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences
  • Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Institute of Industrial Science

Additionally, there will be opportunities for the students to participate in events, such as Japanese language classes, cultural events, exchange events with UTokyo students, etc., organized to maximize their experience as Amgen Scholars at UTokyo.

ELIGIBILITY :

  1. Enrolled in colleges or universities worldwide that award a bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent)
  2. At the minimum, have completed their first year of undergraduate study at the time the summer program begins
  3. Not graduating before the summer program begins and will resume their undergraduate studies for at least 1 semester or 1 quarter after the end of the summer program
  4. Have a strong record of academic performance
  5. Have a good working knowledge of English, demonstrated by a minimum TOEFL (iBT) score of 72, IELTS overall band score of 5.5, Cambridge English FCE, TOEIC L&R score of 785, or TOEIC S&W score of 310, if not a native English speaker or English is not their first language
  6. Have an interest in pursuing a Ph.D.

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. Apply directly to Kyoto University (kindly refer to the Application Guidelines)
  2. The Deadline is 3:00 PM (JST, UTC+9) on February 1, 2025
  3. Program period is 5 June 2025 – 7 August 2025
  4. The FINAL decision is from University of Tokyo

 

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • In the meantime, the students are required to keep the hard file of all documents until further notice by the Office of International Affairs.
  • In case the faculty could not provide the letter of enrollment and nomination during this period, the official nomination through email from the faculty is acceptable. The official nomination could be delivered to head-oia@ugm.ac.id (cc to scholarship@ugm.ac.id)
