UGM Partners Up with Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt Germany

Universitas Gadjah Mada signed Memorandum of Understanding with Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) Germany this August 2021. The signing is the culmination of months of communication facilitated and initiated by the Education and Cultural Attach  in Berlin, Germany, Ardi Marwan.

THI Germany itself is a research-oriented university of applied science and engineering located in the German state of Bavaria. THI currently has three research institutes that focus on materials and surface technology, robotics, production, aviation, sustainable logistics and marketing, and start-ups and business development (science start-ups). One of THI’s institutes, CARISSMA, works directly with car manufacturer Audi and is currently a testing centre for Audi’s car crash.

The agreement between the two universities covers student, staff, and researcher exchange; research partnership; partnerships in organizing a seminar, public lecture, symposium and scientific gatherings; as well as summer schools. The Education and Cultural Attach  Ardi Marwan confirmed that the partnership also includes bachelor, master and doctorate program partnerships.

The two universities’ partnership came on the heels of the Embassy of Republic of Indonesia in Berlin’s recent diplomatic efforts in education. As written on the press release by the Embassy on Tuesday (7/9), the Education and Cultural Attach  Ardi Marwan expressed his hopes in facilitating more partnerships between Indonesian and German universities in the coming future. He also noted Germany’s high quality of education and research as well as excellent human resource output as motivations to pursue extensive cooperation with German universities.

In the same release, the Head of Office of International Affairs, I Made Andi Arsana stated that UGM is very happy with its new partnership with THI Germany. He also hopes this partnership can elevate UGM’s status to an international campus known for its excellent human resource output that helps in pushing Indonesia forward.

In line with the other comments, Sonja Bedington, the Head of International Cooperation at THI Germany,  said that she is very impressed with the partnerships UGM has constructed with renowned universities in Germany. She expressed her appreciation for the steps the university has taken to continuously partner up with German universities and its program offerings for the new partnership. She also stated that THI Germany is very interested in partnering up with more Indonesian universities.

UGM’s partnership with THI Germany isn’t the university’s first partnership with a German university. Other than with THI Germany, UGM currently has partnerships with several other German universities such as Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in Berlin, Goettingen University in Göttingen, Freie University in Berlin, FH Konstanz in Konstanz and Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule in Aachen.
