UGM Signs MoU with NUS to Further Grow Innovation and Entrepreneurship Capabilities in Indonesia

UGM officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National University of Singapore (NUS) on Friday (16/7)  to expand collaboration on venture creation and entrepreneurship. The signing took place at InnovFest, an official event by Asia Tech x Singapore (ATxSG) for start-up and innovation. Aside from UGM, Universitas Indonesia (UI) is also a signatory of the agreement.

This new collaboration will provide scholarship opportunities for UGM students to continue their study at the Master of Science in Venture Creation at NUS. The collaboration also aims to create a joint venture creation program to facilitate new start-ups and entrepreneurships in Indonesia.

The program is planned to take off throughout the next year. UGM students who are qualified to receive the scholarship are expected to begin their study at the Master of Science in Venture Creation program in 2022. Collaborations between future UGM and NUS students in the program to build joint enterprises and start innovations in both Indonesia and Singapore are awaited.

UGM and NUS have had a long-lasting partnership and cooperation as the leading universities in ASEAN. This collaboration brings both institutions towards a closer partnership with the hopes of advancing innovations in the region. NUS through their venture creation and entrepreneurship institution, NUS Enterprise, has also consistently supported innovations and entrepreneurship in Indonesia. BLOCK71 is one of the results of NUS Enterprise’s work that is spread across cities in Indonesia and plays a role in incubating and catalyzing initiatives in both the domestic and global market.

Professor Freddy Boey, Deputy President in Innovation and Enterprise of NUS hopes that the collaboration can further bridge talent and technology exchange between Indonesia and Singapore. The initiative is aimed to strengthen the region’s enterprise ecosystem and is in line with the ASEAN Economic Community goal of facilitating mobility of skilled labor across the region.

Rector of UGM, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng., IPU, ASEAN Eng. also expresses his anticipation for this collaboration. He hopes that every party involved can work together to realize the goals of the program. He also encourages more academic collaborations that can strengthen and facilitate innovations, enterprises, and start-ups in Indonesia, Singapore, and the ASEAN region. (Safira/OIA)
