Greetings from Kochi University of Technology, Japan!

Kochi University of Technology (KUT), established in 1997, was originally a private university. Founded by the Kochi prefectural government, KUT ambitiously set its sights in becoming a world-class university through the pursuit of unique excellence. KUT’s revolutionary design, introducing innovations contributed greatly to development in university education. Despite its relatively small scale, KUT has had a strong presence with its distinctive character and progressive education system. Notably, KUT took the lead in adopting a quarter system to enable intensive learning. Valuing student autonomy, KUT has no compulsory courses.

We are pleased to inform you that KUT Special Scholarship Program 2026 is now open for Universitas Gadjah Mada students.

PROGRAM OF STUDY

Doctoral Program (3 years)
Department of Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering

 

ELIGIBILITY

  1. To have permission from the preferred SSP supervisor to apply
  2. To hold a degree from an accredited institution comparable to the master’s degree offered at KUT after 18 years of education, or to be scheduled to acquire such a degree before the KUT enrollment date
  3. To be 35 years old or under at the time of enrollment, in principle
  4. To have an excellent academic record and strong bachelor’s and master’s degrees from reputable universities
  5. To have the intention, adequate knowledge and research skill to study in the research field
  6. To have high English proficiency(a minimum score of TOEFL iBT72 (Writing 17), IELTS5.5 (Writing 5.5), CET-6 or WSK(PETS-5) . Applicants may not be required to submit English test score if they meet certain conditions.

  2. English Language Proficiency 
  3. Letter of Enrollment from Faculty
  4. Letter of Nomination from Faculty (addressed to the Head of Office of International Affairs UGM)
  5. Letter of Recommendation from the Academic Advisor
  6. Curriculum Vitae
  7. Motivation Letter
  8. Colored Copy of Passport
  9. Confirmation Letter of Participation (download) 
  10. Passport Size Photo 
  11. Other document required from the university
  12. A copy of an email or other communication which clearly shows that your preferred supervisor has given permission to apply
  13. Signed pre-application request
  14. Original bachelor’s degree academic transcrip
  15. Original master’s degree academic transcript in English or Japanese (Include date of issue)
  16. Original master’s degree certificate
  17. A copy of master’s thesis in English
  18. Research Outline
  19. Two signed recommendation letters in English or Japanese. Use KUT official SSP form No. 2.
  20. Original certificate of health in English or Japanese issued within the past 6 months. Use KUT official SSP form No. 3.

Other documents: (If you have the following documents, please submit them )

  1. Rank certificate (in English or Japanese) for bachelor’s and master’s program issued by the university, stating your rank in the class (e.g. 2nd out of 25 students )
  2. Copies of your past publications 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. Submit the aforementioned documents to UGM International Exposure Application Form: http://ugm.id/IntExposureApplication no later than 1 February 2026 for internal review.
  2. OIA staff will evaluate your application. Once you are selected as Nominated Applicants, OIA will confirm your official nomination to Kochi University of Technology and you may proceed to the online application no later than February 13th (Fri) 2026
  3. The FINAL decision is from Kochi University of Technology

 

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • In the meantime, the students are required to keep the hard file of all documents until further notice by the Office of International Affairs.
  • In case the faculty could not provide the letter of enrollment and nomination during this period, the official nomination through email from the faculty is acceptable. The official nomination could be delivered to head-oia@ugm.ac.id (cc to scholarship@ugm.ac.id)
