The Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions (ANSO) is a non-profit, non-governmental international organization founded in 2018. Founding members include the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and 36 other scientific institutions, universities, and international organizations worldwide. ANSO aims to improve regional and global capacity in science and technology, human livelihoods and wellbeing, and to promote broader S&T cooperation and communication.
We are pleased to inform you that the application for ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship 2026 is now open for Universitas Gadjah Mada students.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
- A sub-category of the CAS-ANSO Scholarship (Degree Program) – the ANSO-CAS-TWAS/UNESCO PhD Scholarship – was officially launched in 2022. Each year, TWAS/UNESCO will select up to 40 PhD students from developing countries for this scholarship category, with 10 scholarships prioritized for recipients engaged in climate-related research. Aligning with TWAS/UNESCO’s priority areas, special (non-exclusive) consideration will be extended to two target groups: Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and women.
ELIGIBILITY
- Graduate students (S3). For PhD program applicants: you should be born after 1st January 1991.
- Eligible applicants should meet the admission criteria for international students of USTC/UCAS
- Enrolled in Universitas Gadjah Mada during the program
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Be proficient in English and/or Chinese

ADDITIONAL REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR USTC
- A study or research proposal (no less than 1000 words)
- Two letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors (with phone number and email address)
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form (download)
- Photocopy of degree certificate and academic transcripts for both Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree (if applicable)
ADDITIONAL REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR UCAS
- Supervisor’s Acceptance Form (If available)
- Two Reference Letters from Professors or Associate Professors
- First Page and Abstract of Published Academic Papers (if available)
- Photocopy of degree certificate and academic transcripts for both Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree (if applicable)
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
- Submit the aforementioned documents to UGM International Exposure Application Form: http://ugm.id/IntExposureApplication no later than 20 January 2026 for internal review.
- OIA staff will evaluate your application. Once you are selected as Nominated Applicants, OIA will confirm your official nomination to CAS-ANSO and you may proceed to the online application no later than 31 January 2026.
- The FINAL decision is from CAS-ANSO.
IMPORTANT NOTES
- In the meantime, the students are required to keep the hard file of all documents until further notice by the Office of International Affairs.
- In case the faculty could not provide the letter of enrollment and nomination during this period, the official nomination through email from the faculty is acceptable. The official nomination could be delivered to head-oia@ugm.ac.id (cc to scholarship@ugm.ac.id)
