Greetings from UC Chile!

As part of its initial initiatives, the UC 2026–2030 Strategy of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC), through the Office of Research (DINV) of the Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies (VRIP), invites its academic staff to submit applications to the Research and Creation Competition “Avanza UC 2025”, intended to promote bold, frontier, highrisk and high-impact projects in the arts, humanities, sciences and technology, including work ranging from fundamental research and creation to its most applied forms, which seek to address Chile’s strategic challenges and have the potential to transcend on a global scale.

We are pleased to inform you that the application for Research and Creation Competition “Avanza UC 2025” is now open.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE

  • The purpose of this Grant is to fund research projects that generate basic and/or applied knowledge in arts, humanities, sciences, and technology. Projects should: Address strategic challenges for Chile that are also of global relevance; Explore frontier and unknown aspects within any field of study, characterized by high risk and high potential impact; Promote original and innovative interdisciplinary and international collaborations; function as seed funding to attract further resources and recruit talented researchers and students, both national and international, from prestigious universities and centers.
  • Projects will have a duration of 12 months.
  • Maximum funding per project: CLP $35,000,000. (Approx. 36,500 USD)

 

RESEARCH TEAM

Teams may include up to 4 people (Principal Investigators and Co-Investigators combined).
1. Principal Investigators (PIs): Each project must be led by a UC academic with a 44-hour contract (Responsible Investigator, IR), belonging to the regular or special faculty track. A maximum of 2 Principal Investigators is allowed per project. However, only one (the IR) will act as the main liaison with PUC Chile and will formally submit the proposal. An academic may serve as PI in up to two proposals. Principal Investigators are classified into two categories (including the IR):
  • Category A: Emerging UC Investigators – Assistant Professors who obtained their PhD or medical subspecialty within the last 7 years (as of October 2018).
  • Category B: Established UC Investigators – Assistant, Associate, or Full Professors who obtained their PhD or medical subspecialty more than 7 years ago (before October 2018).
2. Co-Investigators: National or international Co-Investigators (external to UC Chile) can be included. If there are 2 PIs, a maximum of 2 Co-Investigators may be added. If there is only 1 PI, up to 3 Co-Investigators may be included.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Applications will be submitted online, including the following:

  1. Executive Summary (maximum 1 page).
  2. Hypothesis (maximum 1/2 page).
  3. Methodology (maximum 5 pages).
  4. National Relevance and Impact (maximum 2 pages).
  5. Global Transferability and International Collaboration (maximum 1.5 pages).
  6. Committed Results (maximum 1 page).
  7. Annual Work Plan with Mid-Year Evaluation (no page limit).
  8. Bibliographic References (no page limit). i. Budget.
  9. Narrative CV of the research team. The CV should contain up to 5 publications from each principal investigator participating in the proposal (the most relevant publications for the application should be chosen, at the investigator’s discretion).
  10. Formal letters of commitment (roles, contributions, and timeline) and declared pecuniary and non-pecuniary co-financing (use of laboratories, for example) (each counterpart covers its own costs). The signature of an authority endorsing the committed contributions must be presented (e.g., Institutional Representative, Dean, Economic Director, among others).
  11. DOI with the signature of the Dean of the Academic Unit of each Principal Investigator.

  2. The deadline is 03 November 2025.
  3. The FINAL decision is from UC Chile.
