
Universitas Gadjah Mada with support from The Tokyo Foundation through the fellowship program known as the “Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund Program” (SYLFF) is offering UGM-SYLFF Fellowship which exclusively awards shortlisted applicants to pursue the graduate program on the subject of Social Sciences and Humanities in Universitas Gadjah Mada. The UGM-SYLFF Fellowship is an innovative approach to the lasting cooperation of the UGM and Tokyo Foundation under the Sylff consortium with 69 other universities in 44 countries.
The fellowship offers Master & Doctorate Scholarship Program for excellent Indonesian and non Indonesian graduates who are willing to apply to study in social sciences and humanities at Universitas Gadjah Mada.
UGM-SYLFF Fellowship offers a research-based master and doctorate program for one academic year (entry admission August 2025-ongoing or February 2026) focusing on social and humanities. This scholarship will be given to prospective students already in their 1st semester at UGM or will be entering program by August 2025.

Required Documents
MASTER PROGRAM
- Completed Online Application Form
- Letter of Acceptance from UGM
- A copy of academic transcript and diploma/ bachelor degree
- A legalized copy of TOEFL or other internationally recognized English proficiency certificate
- CV or Résumé
- One page letter of motivation
- Research plan
- Two letters of recommendation from academic supervisors
- Endorsement letter from University/faculty/unit* (*for those who are University/Higher Education Institution staff/lecturers or working status if available)
DOCTORATE PROGRAM
- Completed Online Application Form
- Letter of Acceptance from UGM
- A copy of academic transcript and diploma/master degree certificate
- A copy of valid passport/identity card
- A legalized copy of TOEFL or other internationally recognized English proficiency certificate
- CV or Résumé
- Copy of selected published papers in international journal
- One page letter of motivation
- Research proposal
- Two letters of recommendation from academic supervisors
- Endorsement letter from University/faculty/unit* (*for those who are University/Higher Education Institution staff/lecturers or working status if available)
Application Procedure
- Submit the aforementioned documents to the Office of International Affairs, UGM for administration review.
- OIA staff will evaluate your application.
- Once you are selected as Applicants, OIA will send your official nomination to SYLFF for final selection.
- The FINAL decision from SYLFF.
IMPORTANT NOTES
- In the meantime, the students are required to keep the hard file of all documents until further notice by the Office of International Affairs.
- In case the faculty could not provide the letter of enrollment and nomination during this period, the official nomination through email from the faculty is acceptable. The official nomination could be delivered to head-oia@ugm.ac.id (cc to scholarship@ugm.ac.id)
