Greetings from Japan!

Sophia University was established in 1913 by the Jesuits, Sophia University is one of the oldest private universities in Japan. The university was founded with the aim of providing a liberal arts education rooted in Christian principles while embracing modern academic disciplines.

We are pleased to inform you that the application for the Sophia January Session 2025 is now open for Universitas Gadjah Mada students.

PROGRAM DATES

  • Program Dates:  Wednesday, January 8 – Wednesday, January 29, 2025 (3 weeks)
  • Orientation:  January 8, 2025
  • Class Start Date:  January 9, 2025
  • Class End Date:  January 29, 2025
STUDENT APPLICATION PERIOD
  •  Wednesday, September 18 – Wednesday, October 16, 2024
  • OPEN:  9:00 a.m. September 18, 2024
  • APPLICATION DEADLINE:  5:00 p.m. October 16, 2024

 

HOW TO APPLY:

  • Students can apply for our January Session through the online application portal.

Important Notes: Fee-Waived Exchange Spots
If you wish to use the fee-waived exchange spots for your students participating in the Sophia Short-term Program, please contact us in advance. Please kindly note that not all requests can be accepted, as the number of exchange spots will depend on our current exchange number balance. Therefore, the number of available fee-waived spots needs to be discussed with us before you approve your student’s participation as an exchange student at your end.
Steps:
    1. Please contact ssprgrm-co@sophia.ac.jp by October 9, 2024 to confirm the number of available exchange spots.
    2.  Once the number is confirmed, we will send you a nomination sheet.
    3. Please submit the completed nomination sheet to us via email by October 10, 2024.
    4. We will provide you with a specific APPLICATION CODE.
    5. Please share the given code to your students and have them complete the online application by October 16, 2024.

  2. English Language Proficiency
  3. Letter of Enrollment from Faculty
  4. Letter of Nomination from Faculty (addressed to the Head of Office of International Affairs UGM)
  5. Letter of Recommendation from the Academic Advisor
  6. Curriculum Vitae
  7. Motivation Letter
  8. Colored Copy of Passport
  9. Confirmation Letter of Participation (download) 
  10. Passport Size Photo 

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. Submit the aforementioned documents to UGM International Exposure Application Form: http://ugm.id/IntExposureApplication no later than 1 October 2024 for internal review.
  2. OIA staff will evaluate your application. Once you are selected as Nominated Applicants, OIA will confirm your official nomination to Sophia University and you may proceed to the online application.
  3. The FINAL decision is from Sophia University.

 

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • In the meantime, the students are required to keep the hard file of all documents until further notice by the Office of International Affairs.
  • In case the faculty could not provide the letter of enrollment and nomination during this period, the official nomination through email from the faculty is acceptable. The official nomination could be delivered to head-oia@ugm.ac.id (cc to scholarship@ugm.ac.id
