Greetings from Chubu University, Japan!
Chubu University was established in April 1984 as a technical university for the Chubu region. In April 1998 it added the College of Humanities. It now has 7 colleges and 30 departments in the arts and sciences. It was founded as a pre-eminent technical university.
Characteristics of the university are its establishment of a structure that is truly comprehensive. Studies of the fields of nature, society, and the humanities at its six colleges and twenty-one departments of arts and science. The university has created an academic environment in which students can study beyond the spheres of each department or college.

Notes From Chubu University
- Although Chubu University plans to accept exchange students for the 2021 Spring semester, we cannot eliminate the possibility that they cannot visit Japan. We would appreciate it if you could inform us whether your students would like to take online classes for Japanese language and undergraduate courses from your country or withdraw their application if they cannot come to Japan.
- If we need to switch to online courses, the Japanese Language Program will be able to deliver online. Undergraduate courses also will be able to do that online; however, some classes might not be registered due to instructors’ decisions.
- In the 2020 fall semester, all classes for the Japanese Language Program are face-to-face classes. While undergraduate courses are either or both face-to-face and online classes. It’s hard to predict the situation in 2021 spring, but it’s possible to shift to entirely face-to-face or online.
Eligibility
- 3rd to 6th-semester undergraduate students (S1)
- 3rd to 4th-semester graduate students (S2)
- Enrolled in Universitas Gadjah Mada during the program
- Be proficient in English. Non-native English speakers must have a score of at least TOEFL ITP 550, TOEFL iBT 79 or IELTS 6.5.
- Minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale

- JLPT (Certificate Japanese Language) level N1 or N2.
Application Procedure
- Submit the aforementioned documents to UGM International Exposure Application Form : http://ugm.id/IntExposureApplication and hard file documents to Office of International Affairs UGM, Bulaksumur F13 no later April 15th, 2021 for internal review.
- OIA staff will evaluate your application. Once you are selected as Nominated Applicants, OIA will confirm your official nomination to Chubu University and you may proceed to the online application.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

- In the meantime, the students are required to keep the hard file of all documents until further notice by the Office of International Affairs.
- In case the faculty could not provide the letter of enrollment and nomination during this period, the official nomination through email from the faculty is acceptable. The official nomination could be delivered to head-oia@ugm.ac.id (cc to scholarship@ugm.ac.id)
- Application of outgoing mobility for fall/odd semester in AY 2020/2021 will be processed but the implementation/execution will carefully consider the latest development of COVID-19 and government’s regulation.
- Documents collected are compiled in 1 PDF in the order according to the Checklist document, except for a fixed Pas Photo in JPG, send to email scholarship@ugm.ac.id
- The Japanese government has already announced the idea of gradual deregulation of the policy, “phased measures for resuming cross-border travel”; however, we would like to advise your students to consider possible expenses pertaining to this policy such as COVID-19 testing before coming to Japan and accommodation for self-quarantine. (Those restrictions will be gradually removed, so actual expenses must be depending on effective policy at the time of their arrival.)
