Kyushu University is one of the public universities in Japan, located in Fukuoka, on the island of Kyushu. It is the 4th oldest university in Japan and one of the former Imperial Universities. It is considered as one of the most prestigious research-oriented universities in Japan. The history of Kyushu University can be traced back to the medical schools of the Fukuoka feudal domain established in 1867. More than 28,000 students study at the university, of which more than 1,800 students are international. The university is ranked among the top 200 in the world.
We are pleased to inform you that the application for Kyushu University Summer Study Abroad Program: Summer in Japan (SIJ) 2021 Online Program is now open for Universitas Gadjah Mada students.
Program Information
SIJ 2021 is a 4-week intensive study abroad program for undergraduate-level students in all academic fields, joining from all over the world. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, SIJ 2021 will be offered fully online. SIJ 2021 is designed to provide quality and unique learning opportunities, along with various extracurricular virtual activities. The program will be started on July 5th 2021 and finished on July 27th 2021.
Courses and activities:
- Academic Course – Interdisciplinary Lecture Series (ILS) course for credit
- Language Course – Japanese Language Course (JL) course for credit
- Virtual extracurricular activities
- Student Tutors – One-on-one interaction and friendship
- Online homestay – Optional
Kyushu University also offers a limited number of scholarships to students with a strong undergraduate academic record. All applicants will be considered for the scholarship and recipients will be determined by Kyushu University. To receive the scholarship, a bank account for overseas remittance is required.

Eligibility
- Undergraduate students (S1)
- Enrolled in Universitas Gadjah Mada during the program
- Be proficient in English. Non-native English speakers must have a score of at least TOEFL iBT 79 or the equivalent
- Minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale

Application Procedures
- Proceed to the Online Application process from the University’s website: https://isc.kyushu-u.ac.jp/sij/online2021 no later than March 31th, 2021 (Japan time).
- After you submit the Online Application, submit the aforementioned documents to UGM International Exposure Application Form: http://ugm.id/IntExposureApplication for the official nomination from UGM.
- The FINAL decision from Kyushu University.
