[Japan] Summer Program at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU)

The Gateway Program offers intensive Japanese language courses from beginner to intermediate level. APU’s multicultural environment, which cannot be found elsewhere in Japan, provides a friendly and safe environment for students who do not have any background in Japanese. You will not only expand your knowledge of Japanese and Asia Pacific cultures, but also deepen your intercultural understanding and cross-cultural communication skills by studying alongside students from over 90 countries and regions. The city of Beppu is very welcoming to international students and provides an alternative experience to one found in major cities. Students are encouraged to go out into the local community and put their new language skills to use and learn a living language.

Program fee Screening Fees   JPY 11,750 Registration Fees   JPY 32,500 Program Fees (Tuition and Program Activities Fee)   JPY 420,000 Housing Fees   JPY 80,000 Bank Transfer Fees in Japan   JPY 1,750 Total   JPY 546,000 Japanese Level (Level A) For students who are studying Japanese for the first time. (Level B) For students who have completed approximately 150 hours and are proficient in reading and writing Hiragana, Katakana, and approximately 150 Kanji characters. (Level C) For students who have completed 300 hours and can read and write approximately 300 Kanji characters. Cultural Activities – Overnight Trip to Nagasaki (Atomic bombed city.) – Farmstay – Japanese Calligraphy – Kimono wearing experience – Local Buddy etc. Credits 6 credits will be awarded. Participants will receive certificate of completion and transcript at the end of the program.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

•  Motivation Letter
•  Curriculum Vitae
•  Certificate of Enrollment from faculty
•  Official academic transcript
•  Colored copy of passport
•  Passport-size photo (4 pieces, 3.5 x 4.5 cm, white background color, taken within the past three months)
•  Letter of Nomination from faculty (*addressed to Head of Office of International Affairs)
•  Certificate of Japanese language proficiency by a Japanese language instructor
•  English language proficiency  (Min. Score of TOEFL – ITP=500, iBT 61, TOEIC 700 or IELTS 5.5)

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

1) Submit the aforementioned documents to Office of International Affairs, UGM (Bulaksumur F-12) for internal review.
2) OIA will evaluate your application.
3) Once you are selected as Nominated Student, OIA will send your application to APU as for host university selection.
4) FINAL decision from APU.

Please send all documents above in 2 COPIES to Office of International Affairs, UGM (Bulaksumur Block F-12) and  softcopy (compiled in 1 PDF file) to scholarship@ugm.ac.id no later than February 25, 2019.
