The outline of HUSTEP 2017 Spring Semester Course is as follows:
1. Period: April 1, 2017 – Mid-August 2017 (5 months)
2. Application Deadline: October 31, 2016(Japan Standard Time)
3. Admission notification: December, 2016
4. Program Features:
– Designed for undergraduate students both in Humanities and Science
– Courses in English (Japanese language ability is not required)
– Admission and tuition fee waiver
– Being eligible to apply for the Japan Student Service Organization (JASSO) scholarship if students participate in HUSTEP
5. Important Details:
– Applications received after the deadline will not be accepted.
– Non-native English speakers must have a score of at least TOEFL iBT 79 or IELTS 6.5.
– Due to the capacity of the program, there is a screening process to select the participants. Not all students who apply will be accepted.
– Only a limited number of students can be nominated for the JASSO scholarship.

+-+-+-+- Japanese Language and Culture Studies (JLCS) Program +-+-+-+-+-
The outline of JLCSP 2017 Spring Semester is as follows:
1. Period: April 1, 2017 – August 31, 2017 (5 months)
2. Application Deadline: Friday, October 31, 2016 (Japan Standard Time)
3. Admission notification: Mid December 2016
4. The objectives of this program are:
(1) to improve students’ Japanese language proficiency in order to enable them to interact with Japanese speakers and to conduct research in Japanese;
(2) to acquire basic knowledge and methodology for Japanese studies – especially relating to Japanese general and applied linguistics;
(3) to gain a deeper understanding of Japanese language and culture through various courses.
5. Important Details:
– Qualification of applicants
(1) Those who will be 18 years old to 29 years old on April 1, 2017.
(2) Those who major Japanese language and culture in the undergraduate courses of the partner universities of Hokkaido University.
Those who have finished introductory level and reached intermediate level of Japanese language study at the time of submission:
those who passed N3 or above level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, or have equal ability with successful applicants of the test.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE (HUSTEP & JLCSP)
1) Submit the aforementioned documents to Office of International Affairs, UGM (Bulaksumur F-13) for internal selection.
2) OIA staffs will evaluate your application and make the applicant ranking.
3) Once you are selected as Nominated Student, you may continue register to Hokkaido University as for host university selection.
4) FINAL decision from Hokkaido University.
Please send all documents above in 2 COPIES to Office of International Affairs, UGM (Bulaksumur Block F-13) no later than October 18, 2016.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE (SAS & SRS)
1) Home University Coordinator requests for application form from Hokkaido University.
*Please indicate students’ name, students’ school year, desired graduate school, and name of desired supervisor one month prior to the application deadline at the latest.
2) Student completes the form.
3) Home University Coordinator sends the application together with required documents.
4) Hokkaido University reviews the application.
5) Hokkaido University notifies successful applicant and issues further instruction.
