UUM represents the sixth public university in Malaysia which was established by the fourth Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, in 1984. The 1.061 hectare main campus is located in Sintok, Kedah ensconced in a luxuriant tropical rain forest surrounded by emerald green hills where students can explore freely. Additionally, UMM is the only university in Malaysia that provides on campus accommodation to more than 22,000 students.
Universiti Sains Malaysia offers numerous academic programs that focus on a broad spectrum of knowledge and intellectual skills in various management areas – accounting, finance, information technology – including 17 undergraduate programs, 4 postgraduate programs, and 1 distance learning. Aside from academic programs, UMM provides over 10 clubs and associations for students to discover their interests, whether it would be sports, arts and music, or uniform bodies.
