PROGRAM INFORMATION

This summer school immerses students in the settings, material culture, and living heritage that lend character to and enliven the UNESCO Creative City of Baguio in the northern part of Luzon, Philippines.  The investigation of the significance of these to the citizens will include a humanist understanding of the city through place-based memory archiving and sensory ethnography.  Baguio City is a diverse, multi-ethnic city with a complex history, emerging from its history as a settlement of Ibaloi families, an American colonial hill station, and a settlement of Japanese and European nationalities before the Second World War. The participants will visit selected study sites within the city and interact with local residents.  

• Duration: 20 May to 7 June 2024

Greetings from EU-ASEAN!

The “Scholars Programme on EU-ASEAN Relations (SPEAR)” is a programme of a series of online discussions targeted at academicians in the ASEAN region, plus Timor Leste. The programme will provide an opportunity for academicians with demonstrated interest in ASEAN-related issues to increase their understanding of EU-ASEAN relations. The programme is designed to introduce participants to the ‘nuts and bolts’ of EU-ASEAN relations, serve to expose participants to EU-ASEAN cooperation and inform them of latest developments in EU-ASEAN affairs. SPEAR will consist of 8 sessions with different topics commencing between February and March 2024. The format of each session will be an online extensive class discussion via Zoom platform. Each session of the programme will be conducted in 2 hours. SPEAR is organised by the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to ASEAN.We are pleased to inform you that the application for SPEAR 2024 is now open for Universitas Gadjah Mada students.

ELIGIBILITY

1. Applicants must be full-time scholars whose research and teaching focuses on international relations, ASEAN studies, EU foreign policy or related fields.
2. Applicants must hold at least a Master’s degree or equivalent.
3. Applicants must be citizens and reside in one of the 10 ASEAN countries (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam) or Timor-Leste.
4. Applicants must be fluent in English.
5. Applicants must have a demonstrated interest in EU-ASEAN related issues by providing a clear rationale how the SPEAR programme could support their long-term career goals and chosen career route.
6. Applicants must be committed to attend all the programme sessions and to be active in all sessions conducted.

The Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) is a non-profit, non-governmental international organization founded in 2018. Founding members include 37 scientific institutions, universities, and international organizations worldwide. ANSO aims to improve regional and global capacity in science and technology, human livelihoods and wellbeing, and to promote broader S&T cooperation and communication. The ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents (hereinafter referred to as the ANSO Scholarship) was formally launched in 2019 with the goal of training and cultivating young scientists from all over the world.
