The Temasek Foundation International Leadership Enrichment and Regional Networking (TFI LEaRN) Programme @ NUS nurtures the next generation of Asian leaders by providing opportunities for cultural exchange, networking, community engagement and leadership development.
Students who are nominated by their home universities in Southeast Asia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan are eligible to apply.

PLACE AND DATE

The programme takes place at NUS during the students’ exchange in Semester 1 (August – December 2018).
 
 

PROGRAM OFFERED

  • Academic courses
    Students will take 3 – 4 modules in NUS and must obtain a minimum overall Cumulative Average Point (CAP) of 3.0 out of 5.0 during their exchange in NUS.
  • Community Involvement
    Students are required to spend a minimum of 15 hours on at least one community involvement project in Singapore.
  • Host Programme
    Students will be hosted by NUS TFI LEaRN scholars. Students can also consider joining the Host Family Programme and the Student Buddy Programme offered by the Office of Student Affairs and the faculties. Do note that home-stay is optional.
  • TFI LEaRN activities
    All TFI LEaRN activities are compulsory. These include the Introductory Briefing, Temasek Learning Journey, Service Learning Workshop and TFI LEaRN Young Asian Leaders Forum. Students are required to help organise the events, when called upon by the International Relations Office (IRO). The events will be held in Singapore.

 
 

SCHOLARSHIP

The award quantum for AY16/17 is S$6,500
The award will be disbursed in two installments, upon satisfactory completion of the programme.

[Japan] Okayama University – 2018 “SETOUCHI – Its Natural Environment and Society” Advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

The two-week summer program at Okayama University is designed on the basis of the main concepts of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) defined by the 193 Member States of the United Nations in 2015. This program aims to provide students with an opportunity to think about what the “sustainable development” is by exploring Setouchi region’s past, present and future through a lecture series concerning the revitalization of mountain villages, community involvement in the historic town of Kurashiki, the well–known Setouchi Art Festival and the transformation of people’s ways of life in the whole region.  The Summer Program, offered in English, is filled with exciting lectures from selected faculty members, elementary Japanese language classes, and field trips, concluding with group presentations with Okayama University students.

Program Tuition and Fees: 108,000JPY is inclusive of:
  •  Application fee

  •  Field Trips: 
  •  1 night hotel charge on July 7 in Kurashiki: Kurashiki Station Hotel

Excluded:
Airline ticket, transportation fee from the airport to Okayama University, accommodation except for hotel on July 7 in Kurashiki, optional excursions and all personal expenses such as travel insurance, food, etc.

  • Single room: 50,400JPY

Scholarship: 80,000JPY

* A limited number of scholarships is available for students from partner universities with GPA 2.3 or higher according to the JASSO scale.

Eligibility:

Undergraduate students who are studying in universities with which Okayama University has an agreement for academic or student exchange will be given priority. Undergraduate students from other overseas higher education institutions are also encouraged to apply. However, such candidates cannot be considered as candidates for the JASSO scholarship.

 
Certificate & Credit:
Those who successfully complete the program will be awarded a certificate and 3 credits from the Center for Global Partners and Education, Okayama University.

Total number of participants: 45 maximum (Minimum number 20). If the total number of applicants who qualify to take the course does not meet the minimum required number, this summer program may be cancelled. The decision about whether or not this program will be carried out will be made and announced by May 25, 2018 (Friday).

[Japan] Chiba University – J-PAC Exchange Program 2018

J-PAC (Japan Program at Chiba) is offered to students from academic institutions with which Chiba University has university-level student exchange agreements, and whose academic interest is in the area of Japanese culture and society. J-PAC includes International Liberal Arts Program, which offers to students irrespective of their area of specialization, and Japanese Studies Program, which is designed for students who specialize in Japanese studies at their universities. Both start in October and end in August of the following year, however, they can also accommodate students who wish to study at Chiba University for only one semester, commencing either in October or in April in the following year.

Applicants may be eligible for a JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization) scholarship of approximately ¥80,000/month (subject to change). However, please note that the number of JASSO scholarships is limited and being accepted as J-PAC student does not guarantee your scholarship application will be successful. [Hong Kong] The Education University of Hong Kong – 2018 Hong Kong Studies Visiting Doctoral Students Programme

Established in July 2015, The Academy of Hong Kong Studies (AHKS) of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) is the first academy dedicated to fostering Hong Kong studies within local tertiary institutions.
 
Aiming at encouraging non-local young scholars to conduct research on Hong Kong-related topics with a view to building a trans-regional Hong Kong Studies Research Community, the AHKS has introduced a initiative entitled “2018 Hong Kong Studies Visiting Doctoral Students Programme”.  The research theme of this year is “Studying Hong Kong’s Multiethnicity”.  All non-Hong Kong residents who are currently registered PhD students at non-local universities are welcome to apply on or before 28 February 2018.   Successful applicants will be given the opportunity to conduct a visiting research in Hong Kong for no more than two months (June to August every year, the exact time period will be further discussed with successful applicants).
