[Japan] Yamagata University Short-Term Exchange Programs Spring 2023

Greetings from Yamagata University, Japan!

Yamagata University is an institution that boasts a long history and tradition starting with its commencement as the Yamagata Normal School in 1878, and subsequently being founded as part of the new national university system.
It is a University that vaunts an impressive scale in Eastern Japan today, maintaining 6 Facilities, 7 Graduate Schools, Yamagata University Hospital, and 4 affiliated schools that include kindergarten, elementary and junior high schools.

Yamagata University offers two short-term programs for international students: General (Ippan) Exchange Program and Yamagata University Japan Studies Program (JSP), giving students from universities on exchange agreement the opportunity to study here while being registered at their home schools. These programs are generically called STEP-YU (Short-Term Exchange Program at Yamagata University). The possible exchange of course credits and the number of students exempted by the host university from paying tuition are set out in agreements between Yamagata University and their partners.

1. General (Ippan) Exchange Program

This program aims to give both undergraduate and graduate students of various countries an opportunity to further their Japanese language ability and their understanding of Japan, as well as their special studies and research. It
offers regular courses given in Japanese in our six faculties.

1. Yamagata University Japan Studies Program (JSP)

This program aims to give undergraduate students of various countries an opportunity to further their understanding of Japan. In order to advance understanding of Japan independent of Japanese language ability, lectures on aspects of Japanese culture are offered in English. The students will be assigned to one of the faculties on Kojirakawa campus.

Eligibility

• 3rd to 6th-semester undergraduate students (S1).
• 3rd to 4th-semester graduate students (S2).
• Enrolled in Universitas Gadjah Mada during the program.
• Be proficient in Japanese. Min. JLPT level N2 (N3 for JSP)
• For taking JSP, students should have already undertaken at least 150 hours (one year) of Japanese language study at a teaching institution
