Warm greetings from Sophia University in Japan!

Sophia University was founded in 1913, when three Jesuit priests arrived in Japan in response to a request from the Roman Pontiff at that time. Until now, Sophie University remained true to their educational ideal, Men and Women for Others, with Others, and strive to nurture people who are keen to use their abilities to help others and society in general. To be able to achieve this, Sophia University develops diverse educational programs in diverse environments, to foster their students in expanding their knowledge and perspective.

Number of Overall Participants: 80-100 participants

  1. MEDIA AND CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN JAPAN [SOZ20]
  2. JAPANESE BUSINESS AND ECONOMY [IBZ200]
  3. JAPANESE 1 [JPZ105]
  4. JAPANESE 2 [JPZ106]
  5. PERSPECTIVES IN INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION: JAPANESE COMMUNICATION AND CULTURE [SOZ204]
  6. CONTEMPORARY JAPANESE CULTURE AND SOCIETY [SOZ202]

Eligibility

  • A current student or graduate of a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree program outside of Japan – including but not limited to Sophia partner institutions.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale
  • English language proficiency (TOEFL/iBT79,TOEFL/PBT:550,IELTS:6.0)

Required Documents

  1. An OFFICIAL Academic Transcript and a Grading Scale from the applicant’s home institution (written in English) 
  2. Passport Copy
  3. Color Headshot (taken within the last 3 months)
  4. English Proficiency Test Score (TOEFL/iBT: 79, TOEFL/PBT: 550, IELTS: 6.0)

Application Procedures

  1. Proceed to the Online Application process from the University’s website no later than Wednesday, November 24, 2021, 5:00 p.m. (JST).
  2. After you submit the Online Application, submit the aforementioned documents to UGM International Exposure Application Form: http://ugm.id/IntExposureApplication for the official nomination from UGM.
  3. The FINAL decision is from Sophia University.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • The program will be cancelled when we have fewer than 30 participants.
  • If the number of applicants exceeds the capacity, we will conduct an additional selection screening among the applications. In order to maintain diversity of participants, number of participants from one university may be limited. Please understand there is a possibility that one cannot participate even when meeting the criteria.
