Greetings from Japan!

Kansai University was founded as Kansai Law School in November 1886, in the large commercial city of Osaka. Its founders consisted of a dozen people who were judicial officers and businesspersons. Kansai University has seen remarkable development over its many years. The University celebrated its 133rd anniversary in 2019. Kansai University has 13 faculties, 13 graduate schools, and three professional graduate schools, as well as a preparatory course for international students. Over its long history, all those involved in building its institution have had to overcome various hardships to achieve such prestigious standing.

We are pleased to inform you that the application for Short-terms Programs 2026, Kansai University Online Program is now open for Universitas Gadjah Mada students.

 

COURSE TAUGHT IN ENGLISH

1. Winter School 2026  (2 weeks program)

  • The English- mediated course: Learning Osaka, the Mercantile Capital of Japan is taught in English.  The course provides students with the opportunity to learn about the history and culture of Osaka in depth through lectures and hands-on experience.  Students will also gain understanding of the “entrepreneurial spirit” by exploring the history and current situation of companies with roots in Osaka.  Introductory Japanese course is also available as an option for students who wish to study Japanese language.

  • Tuesday, 16 September 2025 – Friday, 17 October 2025
    – Application will be closed upon reaching its capacity
    – Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and will close once capacity is reached.

 

2. Winter School 2026 (1 week Program) 

  • This is a one-week version of the two-week Winter School program, conducted entirely in English. Through participation in a selected portion of the full program, students will explore the history, culture, and entrepreneurial spirit of Osaka. Please note that the 1-week program does not include the optional Introductory Japanese Course available in the two-week version. This program is open only to group applications submitted by university coordinators.

    – Applications must be submitted by university coordinators as group applications.

 

3. OSIP Short-term Career Development Program 

  • The OSIP (Osaka Social Impact Project) Short-term Career Development Program is a 7-day program that brings together international and Japanese students to explore careers in Japan. Participants will take part in interactive workshops, a corporate visit, and cultural exchange. Pre-program online learning is included to enhance readiness and understanding of Japan’s work culture.

  • Unit 1: Tuesday, 16 September 2025 – Tuesday, 28 October 2025
  • Unit 2: Monday, 20 October 2025 – Wednesday, 19 November 2025
    -Applications must be submitted by university coordinators as group applications.

 


COURSE TAUGHT IN JAPANESE

1. Intensive Japanese Language and Culture Course (IJLC)  

  • Kansai University Students as conversation partners will support the conversation and discussion in classes. There are many opportunities to talk with Kansai University students, and a variety of classes are offered, including Japanese for daily situations, Japanese Studies, Traditional Japanese Culture, Academic Japanese, and more.

  • Winter 1: Wednesday, 14 January 2026  – Friday, 06 February 2026 (24 days)
  • Winter 2: Thursday, 12 February 2026– Thursday, 26 February 2026 (15 days)

APPLICATION DEADLINE

  • Winter 1: Tuesday, 09 September 2025 – Thursday, 23 October 2025 (Strictly by 23:59 JST)
  • Winter 2: Tuesday, 09 September 2025 – Thursday, 20 November 2025 (Strictly by 23:59 JST)

CAPACITY

  • The program will be limited to 45 participants in principle.
  • Application will be closed upon reaching its capacity even before the application deadline.
  • In the event that applications close prior to the deadline, a waiting list may be offered.
  • Further information will be provided on the website.

 


APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. Apply directly to Kansai University. Kindly refer to wesbite/flyer attached. 
  2. The deadline is depends on the programs. 
  3. The FINAL decision is from Kansai University.

 

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • In the meantime, the students are required to keep the hard file of all documents until further notice by the Office of International Affairs.
  • In case the faculty could not provide the letter of enrollment and nomination during this period, the official nomination through email from the faculty is acceptable. The official nomination could be delivered to head-oia@ugm.ac.id (cc to scholarship@ugm.ac.id)
