Greetings from Queen’s University!

We are pleased to inform you that the application for Queen’s University SEED Scholarship Program 2025 is now open for Universitas Gadjah Mada students.

 

PROGRAM INFORMATION

The Global Affairs Canada (GAC) Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) program provides scholarships for international students from member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to conduct short-term study or research in Canadian post-secondary institutions. Scholarships focus on studies and research in areas that contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

ELIGIBILITY

  1. Undergraduate students (S1) and Graduate Students (S2) 
  2. Enrolled in Universitas Gadjah Mada during the program
  3. Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  4. Be proficient in English

 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  1. Letter of Nomination from Faculty (addressed to the Head of Office of International Affairs UGM)
  2. Letter of proof of full-time enrolment from the home institution (from your faculty)
    • On official letterhead
    • Dated within the last six months
    • Confirms that the candidate is currently enrolled in a full-time program
  3. Official Academic Transcript (in English)
  4. English Language Proficiency Certificate 
  5. Letter of Recommendation from the Academic Advisor
  6. Curriculum Vitae
  7. Proof of citizenship: Colored Scanned Copy of Passport
  8. Signed Privacy Notice Statement
    • A copy of the Privacy Notice Statement for non-Canadian participants signed by the candidate and dated within the last six months
  9. Letter of intent from the candidate (maximum one page)
    • Explains the nature of studies or research to be undertaken
    • Provides rationale for study in Canada and for the choice of institution, program and supervisor and how the proposed program of study or research will relate to their future career
    • Explains how undertaking study or research in Canada will empower the student to apply their learning to address the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
    • Explains how they intend to use their learning to help combat poverty and narrow the development gap in the ASEAN region in their future career
    • Identifies the Sustainable Development Goal  (SDG) their proposed study or research in Canada is aligned with and will contribute to
    • Candidates from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand or Vietnam must provide an explanation of how their learning in Canada will help to combat poverty in their home country
    • Candidates from Brunei or Singapore must provide an explanation of how their learning in Canada will help combat poverty in one of the other eight ASEAN countries.
  10. Letter of invitation from the Canadian supervisor (graduate students only, maximum one page)
    • On official letterhead
    • Dated within the last six months
    • Signed by the Canadian supervisor
    • Describes the nature and scope of the research collaboration with the student’s home institution
    • Confirms their willingness to support and mentor the candidate during the exchange period
    • Explains how the Canadian institution, supervisor and peers will benefit from the exchange
  11. Letter of support from the home institution (maximum one page) *will be provided by OIA UGM upon nomination
  12. Signed copy of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or Agreement with the partner institution *will be provided by OIA UGM upon nomination

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. Submit the aforementioned documents to UGM International Exposure Application Form: http://ugm.id/IntExposureApplication no later than 10 March 2025 for internal review.
  2. OIA staff will evaluate your application. Once you are selected as Nominated Applicants, OIA will confirm your official nomination to Queens University by the deadline of 17 March 2025.
  3. Person in charge for the ASEAN SEED at Queens University will submit the application to the Canada ASEAN SEED Program The Global Affairs Canada (GAC) by the deadline of 31 March 2025.
  4. The FINAL decision is from The Global Affairs Canada (GAC).

 

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • In the meantime, the students are required to keep the hard file of all documents until further notice by the Office of International Affairs.
  • In case the faculty could not provide the letter of enrollment and nomination during this period, the official nomination through email from the faculty is acceptable. The official nomination could be delivered to head-oia@ugm.ac.id (cc to scholarship@ugm.ac.id
