Greetings from University of Chicago!

It was founded in 1890 and is known for its strong emphasis on academic rigor and intellectual inquiry. The university is famous for its commitment to the “Chicago School” of economic thought and its influential contributions to various academic fields, including economics, sociology, and political science. The campus is home to several notable institutions, including the Booth School of Business, the Harris School of Public Policy, and the renowned Law School. The University of Chicago is also well-known for its unique undergraduate curriculum, which places a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary studies and critical thinking. It has a long history of producing Nobel laureates and is consistently ranked among the top universities in the world.

We are pleased to inform you that the application for University of Chicago Kabir Banerjee Predoctoral Fellowship is now open for Universitas Gadjah Mada students.

PROGRAM INFORMATION

This Fellowship supports predoctoral positions at leading development economics institutions and seeks to expand the representation of strong researchers who have graduated from high school in low and lower-middle-income countries.

Successful candidates will receive a recommendation from the Weiss Fund for some of the most competitive predoctoral positions, giving finalists a rare endorsement in their application process and an indirect subsidy towards their salary in predoc positions. Previous Fellows have been placed in predoctoral positions at the University of California, Berkeley, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Northwestern University, Princeton University, Stanford University, and Yale University. Finalists will also be featured on our website, a unique platform to showcase their work and interest in academia and economics. See the 2022 and 2023 class of Kabir Banerjee Predoctoral Finalists here.

We seek to identify the 3 highest-ranked students with a degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or Economics. We are interested in candidates from the current graduating class of 2023, as well as graduates from the classes of 2022, 2021, and 2020.
