Partnership is an integral part for all companies, institutions, organizations, and the likes. In an educational institution like Univesitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), it comes from fellow universities, research centres, and even ministerial bodies. As you might have already guessed, the Office of International Affairs (OIA) UGM is the one responsible for handling overseas partnerships.

Next, zooming in to the process of “knitting” these partnerships, you will find that every partnership needs to be sealed through legal agreement that binds involved parties in the union. Before cementing such commitment, someone has to take a deep look and do a thoroughly review on the agreement in order to make sure that the pact is not in violation of any legal law and is not going to inflict any loss to UGM. In OIA UGM, that someone is Nana Florencia (Mba Nana).

Mba Nana herself is an alumna of the Faculty of Law UGM. Back in her university days, she was part-timing in OIA UGM, an experience that grant her an offer to be the new Legal Advisor in the office following her completion of a Master’s programme in the Netherlands in 2020. The job turns out to also cover UGM’s domestic partnerships as Mba Nana is employed as the Legal Advisor of Directorate of Partnership and Alumni in which OIA UGM is a sub-directorate under.

Although her job seems to be simple for the naked eyes, Mba Nana says that the workload is actually quite a lot. According to her, she could review up to 5 agreement documents a day, be it coming from faculties, research centres owned by UGM, or UGM as a whole university. She notes that this shows how active UGM is in partnering with other institutions and universities in order to increase its quality in giving the best education experiences for its students.

Lastly, as a fresh newcomer in the world of work, having only been working for more or less a year, Mba Nana wants to share tips for UGM students. She states that students should not be too concerned about how things would be and should be when entering the working world and that struggling during the first months is completely okay as obviously working and being a student are two very different things. The important notes are to be proactive at work and to always keep a check on your mental health (avoid burn out). She also pushes students to find as many experiences as they can get while they are still students.

Bahasa Indonesia
